The day finally came. My daughter, son-in-law and two grand kids (3 & 2) were over today. They came to visit and spent the day with my husband, mom and nephew while I took a day of respite. I really enjoyed myself. I had my hair done (which I had not had done in 16 months) and bought some clothes for me. When I got home everything was fine. However, it was getting to be evening and my DH's routine was off. After dinner, he was going down hill fast and I was starting to feel the pain as a result of it. So, for the first time, I had to ask my daughter to leave. I am so glad that she is understanding. I did tell her why and it all worked ok. I realize I have to do it for my sanity and my husbands. It is just another milestone that says visits have to be limited and focused earlier in the day. I miss my old life.
briegull, your comment just hit me. Because once we have eaten, my husband settles down for a while. He paces between 4 and sitting down for supper, and shadows me some days while I'm cleaning up, but then he settles. The pacing is especially bad if he hasn't gotten to do his long, 2 hour walk. I do know how lucky I am.
Diane, I so hope I don't have to do what you did. Because the only way I can see my daughter is if they stay overnight. At this point we are fixing it so they come late on Saturday, and they can leave Sunday morning or right after lunch. But when the time comes that she has to come and go on the same day I'm going to have some problems. Most of the time all three of them come (my daughter's husband and my grandson come too). Some of the time just two of them come because my SIL has to work or there is someone coming to work on one of their house projects that weekend.
