Call Your Representative to Include Long-Term Services and Supports in Health Reform National Call-In Day Today, Thursday, June 4
As the health care reform debate heats up in Washington following the Memorial Day recess, NCOA is working with other national organizations to sponsor a Congressional Call-In Day on Thursday, June 4 targeting the U.S. House of Representatives urging that long-term services and supports be included in health reform. Our last call-in day generated about 8,000 Senate calls and we need to exceed that number this time. Your voice is particularly important because your Representative is a member of the Ways and Means or Energy and Commerce Committee, which will be writing the House health reform bill.
To call your Representative toll-free, dial (866) 459-9232 and ask for your Representative's office. We hope you will not only forward this email to others, but will go further by planning a call-in day event to gather your staff, residents, board members and volunteers. Please note: phone lines are open only today, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time.
Here is a sample script you can use:
Hello. I'm a constituent, and I'm calling to ask Representative X to support including long-term services and supports in health reform. Long-term services and supports are frail seniors' primary unmet care need, and the cost of care for many families is unaffordable. Financing home and community-based services can save Medicaid dollars and improve economic growth. Please let Representative X know that I called to urge him/her to support including long-term services and supports in healthcare reform. Thank you.
Please call your Representative today at (866) 459-9232 and urge that health reform include long-term services and supports.
Please ask seniors you work with to call, and forward this email to friends and colleagues who share your concerns.
