Does anyone else but me have certain songs they hold in their minds that seem to describe themselves, their status mentally, their outlook on life? Lately, my theme song has been "China" by Tori Amos. It seems to describe my relationship with my husband, John, and our journey through Alzheimer's Disease. Other than that "I Wanna Be Sedated" by The Ramones seems to describe my general attitude during the day! Sorry.....just talky today and I've made a lot of posts because I have a lot on my mind and I'M LONELY AS HELL!!!
Furry Friends are GOOD THINGS! I have several hounds, a house cat, two barn cats, six ponies, two horses, two birds in the house and some beef cattle. LOTS of relief outdoors, here! Brings the blood pressure down, unless I find one of them bleeding or something. Then, I think BIG VET BILL. About the musical themes....how about Bobby Short's "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" and "I Get A Kick Out Of You"? (Old stuff)
Ever since a teenager it was 'Down in the Boondocks'. I had a boyfriend my senior year of high school whose parents thought I was not good enough for their son (he was 25 - good Italian catholic son, so they thought). Actually, I lived on the west side of the tracks and they lived on the way east side!!!! Then my in-laws told me that.
I love Wind beneath my wings by Bette Midler. It was the theme song of a week end cancer seminar I went to in Orlando. I am a former cancer patient. Was having abdominal pain and had a CT scan the day before we left. I didn't mention anything to hubby as if it didn't pertain to him it didn't matter. Sitting through a cancer seminar drove me nuts. Scan was ok. Thinking way back now I realize that hubby was always for himself first-perhaps that is why as long as he is safe and well cared for I am happy with my new life. This site is helping me better than therapy ever could as far as understanding feelings I thought were wrong.
I cannot listen to Josh Grogan sing "You Raise Me Up" without remembering how my dear husband's contuining support and encouragement raised ME up to be more than I could be after we were married on May 31, 1991.
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary; When troubles come and my heart burdened be; Then, I am still and wait here in the silence, Until you come and sit awhile with me. You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains; You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas; I am strong, when I am on your shoulders; You raise me up... To more than I can be.
Ann, how lucky you are. I have several of Josh's albums and love listening to him. Good to know there are still young singers who actually have " good singing voices" and the lyrics of their songs can be understood.
When my first husband died all I could think of was the lyrics of Seasons in the Sun: We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun..... I do think I Will Survive fits my life much better now. I like all the old songs, especially the silly ones: The Little Blue Man, Itsy Bitsy Yellow Polkadot Bikini, Tennessee Birdwalk, Custer, Charlie Brown, Ahab the Arab, Flying Purple People Eater. I had my SIL make a cd for me with all the old silly songs I could remember.
when I am in the shower I sing "I cross my heart" for my wife. She says she loves hearing me sing that song in the shower. I didn't have the heart to tell her the one with the good voice is George Straight on the CD. I'm the other one.
gmaewok, your song titles (I love all of those songs) reminded me of our "joke" favorite song....on our honeymoon the ONLY song that was playing on the radio stations was "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor On The Bedpost Overnight" - ROFLOL
I've always loved "You're Just Too Good To Be True" - and "Theme from A Summer Place" (it stayed on the charts for over 6 months!)
I vote for "I Will Survive" for our theme song here too!
If we are taking a vote on a theme song for this site, I am casting my vote too for I Will Survive. I love this song and it has got me through some tough times. Anyone else want to vote?
Okay..for anyone that Doesn't know Pink Floyd...Lyrics Wish You Were Here (Waters, Gilmour) 5:17
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, Blue skys from pain. Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade Your heros for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange A walk on part in the war For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.
Cher...After love, after love [repeat] No matter how hard I try You keep pushing me aside And I can't break through There's no talking to you So sad that you're leaving Takes time to believe it But after all is said and done You're going to be the lonely one, Ohh Oh
[CHORUS:] Do you believe in life after love I can feel something inside me say I really don't think you're strong enough, Now Do you believe in life after love I can feel something inside me say I really don't think you're strong enough, Now
What am I supposed to do Sit around and wait for you And I can't do that There's no turning back I need time to move on I need love to feel strong 'Cause I've had time to think it through And maybe I'm too good for you Ohh Oh
[CHORUS]
But I know that I'll get through this 'Cause I know that I am strong I don't need you anymore Oh I don't need you anymore I don't need you anymore No I don't need you anymore Beleive
I saw her in concert a few years ago (her supposed last tour) and it was the BEST concert I've ever seen and she was better than ever! I loved it! I play that cd all the time!
Gee I can identify with all these songs. They are all good. Shanteuse and ol don, " Can't Get No Satisfaction" oh yes I can relate to that one and I know I am not the only lady on this site who can. Mawzy, I Will Survive gives me a new attitude too.
Our song was "Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce. Love that song--was supposed to be our first dance at our wedding but the bad forgot to memorize it. Was my hubby mad :)
Wow! So many great choices!! Love lean on me and I will survive. Believe is also great. Actually all of them are great. Some real tear jerkers. Maybe we need to create an album with all the great songs and sell it on our web site!! Maybe we need a sad one and an inspirational one. We all go through some differing days. One day up, next day down.
