I have just learned that my Atrial fibralation problems have returned after a 4 yr absence. ---- Changing medicines for now but Pacemaker is a real possibility. Blood pressure and heart rate have hit record lows for me during the last few weeks. I thought it might be interesting to see the kind of illnesses common to Caregivers. I'll start with my list: Atrial Fibralation Blood Pressure fluctation (&Rate) Caregiver Dimentia Reflux Macular Degeneration (rt. eye) Severe Degenerative Artheritis Knees, Lumbars, thumbs, and even big toe severe Rotator Cuff problems Corporal Tunnell, rt hand Hearing loss, wear aids Sinus/allergy, congestion, etc. & of course------Old Age
Osteoporosis, Reflux, Panic attacks, clinical depression, Osteoarthritis, heart murmur, bi-polar disorder. Plus the everyday perils of being way out here by myself with livestock and machinery.
Up until a couple weeks ago, I didn't have any health issues. Quit smoking in Dec. - now everything seems to be going downhill! I have no high BP, my chol. is fine; all blood work comes back excellent, etc. My energy level is high - I weigh 99 lbs., I walk, not depressed, not over-whelmed with caregiving - yet.
Went for my checkup two weeks ago, found a lump in my breast, and something on my lung. Went for mammo yesterday and CT Scan today. Of course, I won't know anything for a few days. So, I'll have to play the waiting game and see what they come up with.
The only health issues I have are; broken heart- that cannot be cured by surgery loss of dreams- but I am trying to make more near death levels of intimacy loss of ambition and optimism...other than that, I am in great shape...
Vickie, I am also praying for good test results for you! Phranque, you are a quick thinker!!! I loved your response!
My only health issue is acid reflux, which I have had for 8 years. (Before my husband was diagnosed.) However, I am overweight and need to lose, but I am putting it off due to the fact that eating my favorite foods is about the only way I have of spoiling myself at the moment!
Charlotte, your issues can be solved by surgery! <grin>
Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (a slowly progressive neuromuscular disease) Dx as infant (usualy symptoms don't appear until after puberty or later into life) High Blood Pressure Vitamin D deficiency IBS Total dairy intolerance (can have nothing with dairy components unless infintisimal) Suger Intolerance just turned to diabetes--learning all about testing, may need meds. very nearshighted Getting an upper denture on the 23--means having 12 extractions that day.
Forgot--also very overweight--working on that too.
Had to update: also forgot osteopenia and can't take the Boniva type stuff. BUT GOOD NEWS: I don't have celiac disease.
Now something else, in addition to what posted yesterday. Woke up with swollen ankle, could barely walk! Just got back from Dr. - I have superficial phlebitis! Prescribed anti-inflammatory Indomethacin. Not sure I want to take it - the side effects seem worse than the pain I have with my foot! Have to keep it elevated and use heat as much as possible.....
Vickie, stop falling apart!!! <grin> I hope your ankles get back to normal quickly. I, like you, rarely take my doctor's prescribe medicines whose possible side effects are worse that what is wrong with me!
Vickie! i agree put a hold on that body, please! when it rains it pours:) DH took indomethicin for his gout when it gets bad. not good for long term but it works very well for inflammation. hope you are better! divvi and carosi, oh my. will be hoping they get your mouth done without issue!
I'm just trying to figure out what, if anything I can eat the first couple days after. Already checked liquid diet choices--Slimfast,Boost,Ensure, Carnation Instant Breakfast--all have milk. Can get soy base 'ice cream' and Silk to make shakes. Just don't think chewy stuff is going to be possible right off. Ideas repecting above issures welcome.
Carosi, I wish you the best. Had full denture made about 1-1/2 years ago. Had an awful time but it's finally doing okay. Lost weight and still haven't gained it all back. Chewy or hard foods won't work for awhile. Keep it light, liquid, scrambled eggs - I ate lots of eggs! Good luck to you.
I put my 'ailmentns' on another post but left about half of them off. I guess I forgot them. Is that the beginning of AD to forget about pain and annoyance?
I read someplace that the human body was only manufactured to last for 70 years. I asked my PCP about that--he was so funny. He said "Oh, my gosh. Should I have just let you go?"
Carol, you can cook anything you want - then stick it in the blender and make it liquid! Also, mashed potatoes, mashed bananas, scrambled eggs, etc. don't have to be chewed. According to my uncle, he didn't want anything but liquids for two weeks. Don't forget the standard - peanut butter!
I have friends who take cranberry juice, half an apple, a banana, spinach, blueberries, and a kiwi and blend it all together and have a fresh fruit drink (it doesn't look pretty, but it tastes good!).
I would probably have Cranberry-Pomegrante juice with ice cubes in the blender for a slushee - to aid my gums while tasting good....
Mary--where are you? I'm in Washington State, Puget Sound area. It's pushing 90 degrees today. Whew. Warm. I'm not moving around too much.
I left little bowls of water all over the yard and the house for Noche. He loves the bird bath, too. I just don't want him to get too warm. He's wearing a big black fur coat. Go figure....:)
About 12 years ago I had 2 herniated discs and the spinal cord was getting clogged with bone spurs. After the surgery the neurosurgeon said "You have had to have been in a lot of pain for at least 10 years. This is an old, ld injury."
I told him I didn't have a back ache. and he responded that a lot of women can self-hypnotise and actually do not feel pain when there is really pain there.
I wish I could make this shrively feeling in my stomach go away. Perhaps I'll try some self-hypnosis. I'll let you know how that works. :)
I'm in Arkansas. I lived in Tacoma from Sept. 1962 - March 1964. Beautiful area, and I loved Puget Sound! Watching Mt. Ranier, especially at sunset was glorious! We made a couple of trips to Vancouver and went to Seattle to explore about once a month. I'm surprised it is that hot. I don't think it ever hit 90 while we were there! Now misty rain, from Sept - May, oh, yes! I learned how to judge the clouds, hang clothes out, bring them in, hang them out, etc. to get them dry in a day. However, I gave in and bought a dryer!
Mary--there's another thread talking about theme songs--I think I like "I have a new attitude." That's judge Laura's theme song. I'm not crazy about her. She's too bosy for my tastes, but she does have some good stuff. Wish she'd play the whole song instead of just a few bars.
Never been to Arrkansas. We have a son who lives in Springfield, MO and he makes trips to Arkansas frequently. Glad you like our "Emerald City." We do get 90 degrees about every 3-4 years but this is unseasonably warm. We generally get those gray overcast mornings, misty days. Very few gully washers. :)
Just got a call from my wonderful doctor - and after hours too! He had just gotten my lung CT scan results - Good NEWS!!!! Nothing at all to worry about! Said he knew I was worried and just wanted to put my mind at ease. How good a doctor is that???
doneit, I agree and I've told him that! His mother is in a NH with ALZ. So, he is VERY up on that and always asks me about ME as far as caring for DH. He is not DH's doctor - wish he were! But he has a good one too!
Dan, I have BPH too, but didn't mention it before because I didn't see it as a health issue..just an inconvenience. The doctor said "You've got a BIG prostate", and I said "Thanks, Doc!". <grin> I've had 2 biopsies done in the last several years, one last fall, both negative for cancer, so he's just keeping track of that for me. I guess we're just two of the lucky 1/3 of men who have this. I don't take anything for it, and only get up once during the night to visit the sandbox.
Yes Mary, I remember those days. Seems like so long ago. It seemed so unfair you ladies had to go through such times for so long. There ought to be a better way. If childbearing were done by men, the race would die out.
Back online after two days with no internet. Vickie, what a relief to know the lung scan was fine. Carosi, yikes! I hope your multiple extractions go as well as such things can.
