Ben- Except for catchup on cucs, the rest sounds good to me. Put cottage cheese on slice of bread, sprinkle cinnamon on top & pop it under the broiler for a bit, it's perfectly delicious.
Altho you should know that I am a disaster in the kitchen, cannot cook at all. The above is about as gourmet as it gets. Family will tell you that I'm not allowed to bring anything to a pot luck other than sliced fresh strawberries.
Oh no, Lois, canned pears with mayo and cheese sprinkles was something I grew up with -- although that would usually be on a bed of lettuce leaves and called a salad by my mother. I never had regular tossed salads until after I was married. Another such "salad" that my mother made was bananas sliced longways and smeared with whipped mayo and peanut butter.
chocolate bon-bons with orange filling are yummy, so why not orange sherbet with chocolate sauce?
All those Kraft mayonnaise recipes !! Chunk of iceberg lettuce with mayo on it! carrot and raisin salad which I always hated but was always forced to get at Luby's.
Gee, I can't believe I actually found others who love pear salad. How about chunks of iceberg lettuce with smear of mayo and dill pickle slices on top.
my DH loves a small container of berry blend yougurt mixed with half a cup of cottage cheese, honey and cinammon, its a super snack! and filling. can use as a side to chopped peaches or pears.divvi
Does anyone remember putting an unopened can of sweetened condensed milk in a pan of boiling water for hours. The milk set into a wonderful caramel type flan. The stuff came out of the can firm enough to slice. Used to put a slice on lettuce with a canned pineapple ring and some mayo on top.
I used do the sweetened condensed milk and use it to make chocolate covered candy bon bons. Very good. I might try the mayo way only I am eating too many calories now with all the chocolate dh drags in the house. Went to Aldi's and Gabes yesterday (the only stores he likes to shop in so we go often) and he bought 5 boxes of chocolate truffles and nuts. Now, it would not be polite to refuse to share, would it?
I remember the caramelized sweetened condensed milk, but don't remember it's being used in a salad -- maybe just eaten as a dessert pudding.
A favorite dessert my DW used to serve when we hosted our bridge club was made using "Famous Chocolate Wafers" -- remember those, they came in a large round can, just the diameter of the wafers. She'd make a "log" by spreading sweetened whipped cream (not from a spray can) between wafers and refrigerating it, and then slice diagonally for serving. Not weird, I guess, but good. I never see those wafers in thestore anymore.
GC you can still get the wafers-but they are square. I used to freeze the roll before slicing. Folks are using ice cream sandwiches layered with cool whip to make a similar treat. I enjoy seeing your posts other places I wander to.
Instead of a pear, we used a slice of pineapple on lettuce, topped with grated cheese, a drollop of Miracle Whip, a cherry and spinkle of chopped pecans. Yum!
I love ANYTHING with Eagle Brand!
Ranch dip in a baked potato or onion soup mix dip in a baked potato
biscuits and gravy with a little ketchup on the side
doneit, You've taken me back to my college days. We used to cook the cans of condensed milk on our hotplates in the dorms (illegally of course :-)). MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm. Such sweet times !
I'll bet I can outdo all of you. Years ago a friend asked me to go on a bicycle trip with him. He said he would bring the lunch. We rode, over mostly dirt roads, for about 20 miles in very hot weather. Then we stopped for lunch and he produced: ONE PEANUT BUTTER AND MUSTARD sandwich for each. And NOTHING to drink. I was so thirsty I drank out of the lake we were beside.
My all time weird is to take smooth p-nut butter and stir it up with syrup(sorghum if you have it) and then dip corn bread in it!!!!!!!!!!! YUMMMMMMMM also love pinapple sandwiches. Of course DH does not eat any of this!!
How about sardines? One of our favorite lunches is to open a can of small sardines, smash them up with the back of a fork, stir in a large dollop of sweet pickle relish, a few generous dashes of Worchestershir sauce, and a few dashes of Tabasco hot sauce, and then eat these on soda crackers, washed down with milk (actually, we'd say "sweet milk" here in the South to differentiate it from buttermilk).
Did I miss anyone naming the best sandwich in the world??? Sliced red garden fresh tomatoes, Duke Mayonaise, Captain John Durst's sliced white bread...Ya gotta lean over the sink while eating this one! This special bread is from a small bakery in Savannah and is available in the Coastal Carolinas and Coastal Georgia and soaks up the drippy juices best!!! :=) Some people add a slice of sweet white onion to make it even better! mmmmm! You must try this one.
