I thought this site might help some folks before they go see an EL Attorney. www.elderlawanswers.com
You can click for your state and then click on the info you need. There is one for Medicaid and what the state allows the spouse to keep. Hope it helps someone.
Medicaid is not an option now, plus he has VA medical.
We did talk to the attorney and we will have to settle for the DPOA for now which is the most important. He said being a community property state and not having any assets to worry about, the will can be done later or something we can do on our own. He quoted $225 to do DPOA for the both of us, but told him I would have to go home and 'crunch' numbers. He said 'I think I can do them for $175.00. I told him I would 'crunch' some numbers (as right now our only income is my $200 a week unemployment until Nevada starts his $150). I will call him tomorrow and tell him to go with it.
The attorney is the same age as hb and he was surprised at how well he/we was taking the diagnosis. Art says 'what can ya do' and I said 'it hasn't really sunk in yet'.
We have a meeting with the neuropsychologist tomorrow to find out the results of the testing (I assume that is what the appointment is for). Now we will see if by their testing he has lost ground in the last year and in what areas.
Attorney called this morning saying he didn't feel right about the price he quoted - he will do DPOA for both of us for $100. We have appointments in the morning. PTL
