Gourdchipper, Several years ago DH and I visited my niece in Scotland and she had tickets for the Tattoo they were facing the courtyard so the view was excellent. It was the weather that was a problem, pouring rain and as black as midnight and WINDY. The band had a hard time holding on to their music but what really impressed me was the Royal Navy. They had ropes stretched between 2 poles set in the ground. The ropes were done in squares and the guys would hang from the ropes in different designs. I just knew one of them would slip or get blown off but they didn't!

We made it thru the nasty storm, but I did wonder about it for a bit. We live at the top of Mt. Scott and whoa, trees were bent and limbs flying...we battened down the hatches for about an hour before it settled down. Our son lives in the area of indicated funnel sightings. Haven't heard from him yet, so must be okay.

Chicken feet? I have always loved them..as a wee child I would paint the toe nails and make them walk..I know...very strange! I use them for broth when I can get them now. My mom was an "adventuresome" cook....we finally said no to "Lungs A la Viennese".

Good afternnon all. It isn't really a lovely day in Connecticut but had a great morning. It must have been a bit cooler this morning so woke with one dog on the bed next to me, a cat on my pillow (her normal sleeping place), a cat on top of me and another one on the other side all stretched out (anyone hear the word sandwich). DH always told me I gave off heat like an oven - they must have loved it.

I managed to get the fountain cleaned out and a wee bit of gardening done before coming to work. It is Friday and I am so looking forward to the weekend. The weather for Saturday and Sunday is high 70s to low 80s.

Blueberries are now in the stores - time to get some and make my blueberry cake. This is always a favorite of family, friends and co-workers.

Drizzle-drat-drizzle-drat! Cloudy, cooler, and drizzly this morning. We had the scary winds, black clouds, a bit of thunder and lightning late yesterday. Lots of happenings around the area but nothing that directly affected us here. We have a trip planned to the Woodland Park Zoo (Seattle) tomorrow. The weather forecast is for clouds and a high of 67. We are skeptical that the weather will be dry and not too cold, but sure are hoping for a good day. This is the trip we had planned to do following a visit to DH in the hospital on March 14 (the day I got the pre-dawn phone call that he died). Everyone keep your fingers crossed for us.

Well, with the weather being cooler and wet, waiting to see what the afternoon brings I haven't decided if I'll do any planting or if I'll stay in and do paperwork.

Diane = now is good time to plant and work in the flower beds. You don't get as hot and it is better for the plants to be transplanted in cooler vs hot sun weather. Glad you are safe after that storm.

Kathi37 - Mt Scott is a pretty place to get gorgeous views from.

A little late in the day, but had to get up early and have the car at the shop by 8 a.m. That meant getting DH up, dressed, and breakfast and take the dog for her walk by 7:30. Almost impossible, but we made it. Then stopped and bought 2 doz. DONUTS to take to the dealer service dept. Have found that this insures great service. Worked today too. They were overjoyed with the donuts, took our car in right away, then gave me a coupon for free oil and filter change! Been a good day so far - think we'll grill burgers out tonight.

I am SO P.O.'d!!!!!!!! Yesterday I spent over one hour on the phone with ATT U Verse support trying to get that stupid wireless thingy to work. Finally it did, for all day. This morning I connected o.k. until I executed a new Ver. 8 of Explorer that downloaded yesterday after everything was 'fixed'. When Explorer tried to do its thing, the connection went down. There is no way I can find to call ATT and DEMAND that a live person come out to the house and fix the damn thing! I am going to give up and start bill paying by check and snail mail again, because this desktop does not have enough disk space for Norton to download virus updates! Give me the good old days...I'm so tired of this. Does anybody know a phone number for ATT where I can ask for a live body to help me?????????

    June 5 - 4:15 PM

Joe, we have U-Verse too and haven't found a 'live' person either. My daughter has a laptop and kept getting kicked off. She unplogs the router box for a couple of minutes and then plugs it back in. It works for a few days so you might try it. My main complaint about it is that it freezes frequently, sometimes for a few seconds or even a few minutes. It's a real b**** when you're trying to watch a TV program.

It's been a nice sunny day here and the humidity is pretty decent. I was talking to my sister in Seattle last nite when the storm hit up there. Haven't heard from her today.

I went to Curves twice and decided against it. My lower back and legs hurt enough without the added muscle pain from Curves. I decided to go back to the water aerobics class we were in several years ago. I signed up and start next Wednesday. I can move in the water and do things I can't do on land due to the water resistance. Now to the 'tent and awning' store this weekend to look for a bathing suit :-)

TexasJoe, I don't know if it still works but when I used to get a list of buttons to push I would ignore them. I would end up getting a real live person to talk to. You might want to try it.

    Try this link: http://www.gethuman.com/

Thanks all of you. After looking at my last bill, I saw the number to call was for orders, billing, and support, so I thought if I call like a customer wanting to BUY something, I might be able to talk to a real person. It worked! So I told the guy if I can't get a body out here to fix this thing, I'm going to drop ATT and go to another vendor. The tech guy just left, after installing the ethernet stuff that goes through your house power lines, therefore eliminating the wireless thingy altogether. It works now just like the desktop...it is a direct connection to the gateway (thru the power wires).
Yea!!!!!!! Thanks again for your help. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Checkin' in. Today our daughtr and a couple relatives got the woodchips/bark and then she spread it in all the beds. She planted the tree, and started prepping the area to plant the corn. Tomorrow she'll finish the planting--all the seed, abnd then we'll finish the culling and repack her stuff that's staying here, and bag the rest to be donated or dumped. We'll see her for a little on Sun. morning before she has to be at the airport, so tomorrow will be our last full day with her.
It has turned out pretty well with Dh and I'm really glad we had this time, because it will be a fair long time until we'll see her again.
  5.
Divvi, Been off line for a while...re: the Sporran, the dressy ones are usually made from horsehair if I am not mistaken. More often, they are leather...and used in the place of pockets (since the kilt has nary a one.) Don't dare call it a purse..but that's what it is.

The military pipers usually wear the horsehair ones....full dress uniform and all taht rot, but if you ever look at Prince Charles in his kilt, he'll be wearing a leather Sporran.

Jimmy, If I'm wrong, jump right in the middle of this.

5:30 am June 6th in the pacific northwest.

a bit cloudy, but hoping for sun this afternoon.

We're going to the zoo, we're going to the zoo, hi-ho-the dario, we're going to the zoo!

(6:15 am) Charlotte, in a way I wish I was staying home to plant my shrubs and that my kids could still get to the Zoo. But.....I have promised and won't let anything get in the way this time. My son has only been driving for a couple months so NO WAY would I let him drive through Seattle.

Maybe tomorrow after church I can get some planting done.

Good morning, Looks like a lovely day today. Going to see our grandson play baseball around noon. That means I have to get DH up, and WASHED, which hasn't happened in a week, but he might do it, to see the game. Hope so, anyway. Well, must walk the dog and begin the day.

Good morning. Another rainy day here in Wyoming. Looks like a good day to go to a movie or something. I wish!
Yesterday we had a huge hail storm with lightning and thunder which scared the dog. She kept trying to hide under the tv
and whining. The hail shredded my basil plants which I started from seeds and they were doing so good. I will have to start
again, dang it. Well today we have a lost wallet to find. I have already turned the house upside down, looked in every
drawer, pocket, the garbage, the car, the truck. Apparently, it has gone to be with those pajamas. Already ordered a new
medicare card online. One bright spot is that his drivers license is in that wallet along with his license to carry a firearm. I
have already used the fact that he can't drive or buy any new guns without that wallet. I'll tell you this for nothing, if I find
that wallet first, it is probably going to disappear for good once I get the credit cards and important data from it. Cheers all.

The weather here is having trouble deciding whether it's supposed to be rainy or sunny, so we're bouncing back and forth, requiring careful timing for yard work. (-: Either way it will be hot, which suits me just fine.

I've been putting off going to the grocery, but there's no help for it now. I'm running out of food, a situation to be avoided at all costs. Could someone shoot some of those donuts this way? Krispy Kreme is my favorite, but I'm not picky.

Diana, I would love to go to the zoo with you. Have a wonderful time.

I generally call the help line on the Verizon DSL and once you've tried the unplug the modem and replug it thing, they put you through to a real person pretty quickly. The only time I couldn't get it to work again they arranged for a real person to come to my house without my even asking for it.

I got an automated phone call asking if the situation had been fixed because they had been working on the wires in my area. It wasn't so I tried the phone customer service and explained that we had pushed the reset button on the modem, and she knew what to do about that once she could tell that the wires were up and working again so the two of us fixed it. I still got a phone call from the in-house tech asking if I needed him to come to the house or had we fixed the problem. We had so he didn't come.

But one thing I have noticed. The idea of talking to someone in the sales area and telling them that you need help or you are canceling service does work. It got my DirecTV working four years ago when nothing else would. And in my case it was just a cry for help and not a threat when I said that I was giving up. Next thing I knew I had a customer service manager on the phone and he had taken the entire problem over until it was fixed. I still have DirecTV and I still love it.

Good morning, Starling and everyone. Sounds like you have a good deal trouble-wise. At&t did seem very interested in not losing me, so they came through even if I did have to start with the sales people instead of going the support route.
Sat. morning TV is so crummy..all day for that matter. Wish I had satellite or cable - too expensive. Kind of partly cloudy and breezy this morning, making me feel more blue. Sure would be nice to have somebody to do something with or go somewhere with. Some days the caregiving seems harder than others. Hope you all have a good weekend despite our lives.
  8.
Good morning everyone! Beautiful day in Kentucky today. We have been up, coffeed, breakfasted, took DH to his "must do" 3 yard sales. He didn't buy anything! Yippee! Mid-afternoon we are going to our "handy-man"'s daughter's graduation party. Pool party for the younger ones (or older, if desired), and the food is being cooked in a garbage can!!???? Should be fun. Most of them know DH and know the problems, but I think he will do fine. He really loves this family, so looking forward to getting out later.

Everyone - hope you have a great weekend. TJ, I do hope the day perks up for you and it won't be so hard.

I hope everyone is having a good day. I have done two loads of laundry and done some shredding of papers and bills. Still have a mountain of it to go because I let it get away from me. It is dreary and gray here today. Yesterday afternoon we got a couple of downpours. We had thunder but no lightening.

Our new chairs were delivered yesterday. I like my chair but the colour doesn't really go in the living room. When DH can get a neighbour to help I can get the chair out of my bedroom and put the new one in there. That's about all the excitement going on here! Hang tough everyone!!!

I have hired a boy to cut my lawn....it's nice to hear the mower and not be on it. And to smell the grass. I'm planning on visiting my husband in the hospital this afternoon around lunch time, and then coming home to work in my garden. Monday morning, I'll face the "real world" once again and begin making more phone calls, making more appointments for him, finding out more information that I can comprehend, I'm sure. Going to call on the local community college while John's in the hospital so I can talk to a counsellor there and restart my education. Dh doesn't want me to do any of that.....always was very controlling anyway. He's afraid I'll meet some one else if I take any classes other than on my computer. WELL, MAYBE I WILL! Discovered yesturday that he truly has become incontenent. Detests wearing those "pull ons", but I assured him that no one can tell he has them on under his boxers and not to worry, they keep him dry. I feel so sorry for him. Last night when I was with him, he sounded good and was very lucid. Not abusive. Not accussing. Voiced worry over my situation, though he doesn't really grasp how horrific our finances are. Need to see my Elder Law attorney again, FAST. I'm so frightened about my future. It feels like my limbs have been cut out from under me. I know I'll be loosing my horses and probably have to rent out stable and pasture space for a little income. I've always lived a good life from childhood on....never needed or wanted anything. Now, I'm wondering where I'll end up in a few years. Maybe God won't let this last long.
  10.
Hi Jen, I'm glad to see you want to take some classes and in so doing possibly meet someone. I hope to make some new 'friends' by taking a Tai Chi class and anything else that may look interesting. Anything to get out and about in the real world. I am not specifically going to "look for someone", but rather let God's will happen, and if anything does, then so much the better, but if not, then I'll just accept that as my destiny. At any rate, my first priority is the comfort and well-being of my poor sweet wife.

Lois, I chose the fabric and colours for my chairs. I thought mine would look good with the yellow walls but it is a different shade of yellow and just doesn't cut it. The one in the bedroom will match a colour in the loveseat. It's cheaper to move the 2 chairs than recover the loveseat. lol.

Good morning! It's a lot cooler here today, partly overcast and windy. However, we didn't get the rain we were "promised" so have been out setting sprinklers on the lawn and garden. It is so peaceful outside.

Had kind of a restless night. Our 60+ pound lab/retriever mix (Shasta) likes to sleep on top of the covers right between us, but only when I tell her she can. She thinks she is a lap dog. Last night I guess she decided she needed more room because she kept inching over till I was right on the edge of the bed. Queen size bed really IS NOT big enough for three!! I suppose I could have made her get off the bed, but I would have had to get up to coax her off once she was so comfortably ensconced. Think I'll just kick back and read the paper and play on the computer today. Have a good weekend, all.

Good afternoon from the NW. Sure hope they are having some sun up north cause here in Vancouver the clouds are still there with a light wind. Temp: 60 degrees - compare that to the 70s and 80s we have had for the last two weeks. They had hopes we would make it through Rose Festival without rain (which would be a rarity) but didn't. They did have the Grand Floral parade with no rain - I think.

Jules - that is the rain, wind and hail we had the other day. It is compliments of Diane, Kathi and the rest of us here in the NW.

We did it! The landscape cleanup, tree and seed planting is done. Also got the storage stuff of Daughter's sorted and culled.
She is bone tired but pleased with all she did. I am thrilled to have this done. Now we can enjoy the yard with little work or worry. It will be green with no mowing, therefor no money going out. In the Fall we'll have 3 kinds of gourds, and 3 kinds of pumpkins. Before that we'll have sweet corn and lemon cucumbers, and can enjoy the Star Gaze lillies and irises.

It's been 2 years since we saw our Daughter and we'll be missing her like crazy when she flies back tomorrow. But she needs to get back to her hubby and her snake farm. She's got a batch of 23 fancy corn snake eggs incubating and due to hatch in about 2 weeks.

We still haven't had any rain in the Puget Sound area to speak of. A little drizzle this morning and that's it. It's overcast all day today and the temp is in the 60's. A real relief from earlier in the week. I trhink the hot spell is about over but no rain. 60's for the next week.

Went out to dinner with friends last night. DH had fish and chips. I had some kind of a fancy chicken concoction. I had carroto-cake cheesecake for desert with real whipped cream. that really blew my diet, didn't it. Well to make a long story short, I got the worst case of GI's I've had in years. I won't be doing that again soon. Believe me. I think God was watching me.

Right now I'm trying to get all caught up on the posts. I've neglected for a couple of days. Noche is sitting here watching me type. Every time I have to move the cursor, he puts his sweet little paw up to try and catch it. What a guy.

Carosi, glad to see you've got your landscaping/gardening things done. Hope you enjoy it during this growing season. I on the other hand, still have weeds to kill and young trees to water. The Japanese Maple in the back yard seems to have gotten established o.k. Now I just need to survive about 10 more years to see it get to about 5-8 ft tall and look gorgeous!

Texas Joe--ditto our new maple. Just a baby about 6' tall.
When Daughter cleaned up the landscape areas, she took out a whole mess of scrubby little junker trees. A couple had gotten a pretty good foothole, so she had to cut them down leaving a stump which she then treated with concentrated poison to kill them so new shoots won't come out. Those will have to be dug out later before we can move rosebushes to those sites. Have one kind of rose bush in multiple places. Cool bush. It flowers with medium pink to white flowers depending on weather influences and feeding; has a nice light scent; and sends out roots and then baby bushes come up--whereever they want.<lol>

Glorious day in Ct. Will go to visit dh for lunch. Our daughter will meet me there. She has a hard time visiting alone and is finding this whole matter very tough. He is only 24 and has been living with this for 8 years now. Anyway, after our visit, we will go to Abbotts for a hot lobster roll, sit outside on the water and enjoy! Sounds great to me. Later, I am hoping we can plant the topsy turvey tomato planter I bought. I know some of you REAL gardeners are having a good laugh on me (enjoy!!) but I love homegrown tomatoes and have no time for a garden. Might even plant some basil and cucumbers. I'll let you know how it does!! Hoping everyone else gets to have as nice a day in your neck of the woods!!!!
