I mentioned this once before, but have seen it come up again several times recently. My typing these days is slow to say the least. When I am finished, it comes out in red, "problem encountered, post can't go through" or something to that affect. I learned months ago that if you hit the same button again (what's it called?) the second time, your post doesn't get lost, and it shows up. Some people think since they've made a lengthy post it won't take it, or why they've lost the post. Then they redo an abbreviated form of the original post. I think it is the time allotted. But this has worked for me every time, just hit the button again & then it shoots through. Hope this helps someone.

The button is "Add your comments."

The problem I've had lately is that my 3 or 4 of posts did not appear on the discussion board. Sometimes I think I hit the wrong button. Sometimes I think I've been censored. One in particular was when I welcomed you back and hoped that "Sunshyne would beam our way again." It left me wondering what had happened.

I have this set for the maximum amount of time and maximum amount of words (I think), BUT I have mentioned this before - it's a good idea to write it in a word document before you write it in the comment section. Copy and paste the word document into the comment section. That way, if it gets lost in cyber space or you've been timed out, you still have a copy of it, and can re-post it.

Generally, if I delete a comment, I write to the person to let them know why. Also, sometimes, if a post is way off topic, I may move it into the discussion topic where it belongs, but if I do that, I always post that I am doing it. And sometimes - well, sometimes, I just goof up.

While we're on the subject-what does big input in the right upper portion of the add your comments mean? If you click on it it changes to small imput
  1.
If you click on small imput the typing space will get smaller. It is sort of confusing but I figured that is the way it works. Just another
small "blip" in the grand scheme of things. Have a good day. Thundering here......

I have discovered that I can tell when I have been lurking too long instead of posting. When I have not posted for a while but have been doing a lot of reading, I of course hit the back to discussions button. When I decide to post I hit that button by mistake instead of adding my comments. But I am getting better.

Any chance of getting back to Home page button on the discussion page?
  2.
Think I'll change my name to TexasDumba$$. I have never been able to 'cut and paste'. Do you have Word executing in one window, and Explorer running with this site (in another window)? Then cut while your in Word and go to the other and paste? I was great in Excel spreadsheets, but not in manipulating verbage in or between documents in different programs. They need a new book "Cutting and Pasting for Dummies".
  3.
TexasJoe...cutting and pasting is simply..use the right click button on your mouse...just hightlight what you want with the left button, right clic, hit copy...then move to wherever you want and right click.....hit paste and voila..instant cut and past dummies....

    Your gonna love this description.
When I want to share a giggle, or joke here, that I got in an e-mail, I open the e-mail (Outlook Express) then put it down on the shrinky bar. Then I come here (through Internet Explorer), go to the Giggles and jokes Add your comments box. Then I bring the email up on top of it. Here's the magic:
Hit Number lock. Put your arrow on the e-mail body. Press Control and number 5 on the calculator keys. The body will be highlighted.
Then put your arrow in the Comment box and press so the little blinky stick is there. Then press Control C and then Control V. The text should be there in the box. Then you can delete any e-mail details that are not needed and add your comment in. If the text isn't there the first time, I usually can get it on a second repeat of the Control C Control V.
My sister told me this should work for a document I make too (Word).

Carosi, you just gave me a headache! Can somebody fly down here and sit next to me and show me? I am the Charlie Brownest!

Phranque, and how was it you highlight? Also, how do you "move to wherever you want ", by clicking on the other window (or icon thingy down on the shrinky bar if I minimized it)? Geez, can I go out and play?

I use the control c and control v all the time. But to highlight I just left click on mouse - highlight what i want to copy, then control c. The move to where I want to paste, place cursor then control V.
  5.
TJ, let's see if I can clarify how to cut and paste. Just open whatever document you want to copy the material from -- it could be a WORD document or a website containing text or whatever -- and then use your mouse to place the cursor at the beginning of what you want to copy. Press the left hand mouse button and hold it down while you move the mouse to the end of the material you wish to copy and then release the button -- the material you've "selected" for copying will appear highlighted. Then, while the material is highlighted, go to your keyboard and press down the CTRL key and hold it down while also pressing down the C key -- this will copy your selected material to an electronic clipboard, where it will remain while you then come back to Internet Explorer (or whatever browser you're using to read posts on this AD forum). Once you get back to this forum, open the thread where you want to paste in your material, use your mouse to place the cursor in the "Enter your comments" box, and then go to your keyboard, press and hold down the CTRL key, and then press the V key. That pastes whatever you've stored on the clipboard, so your selected text should now appear in the "Enter your comments" box, and if you'll move your cursor to the "Add your comments" button and left click it, your comments should be on their way. BE CAREFUL NOT TO ABSENT MINDEDLY CLICK ON THE "BACK TO DISCUSSIONS" BUTTON UNTIL AFTER YOU'VE CLICKED THE "ADD YOUR COMMENTS" BUTTON!

The selected material will actually remain on the clipboard until you either turn off your computer or else overwrite the material by selecting and copying something different, so you could paste the material anywhere you wished -- just open the document where you wish to place the material, place the cursor where you want to start, and do the CTRL/C routine.

Texasjoe...to highlight, just hold your left click button, move your mouse over the text you want to copy, release the button and the text shud be highlighted (in blue). then click the right button, click on copy....
then go to where you want to past and then right click, hit paste and voila..instant copy....let me know if that works for you...easier than ctl keys, I think

Or, of corse once you have something highlighted you can move the cursor to the top and ciick on the pictures to choose what you want to do.

    Texas Joe,

If you are using a mouse phranque's sytem is by far the easiest way to cut and paste.

I've got to get a wireless mouse for my laptop, using the touchpad and keys confuses me.
  7.
The method I use is to highlight the text I want as Phranque described. Then go to "Edit" and click on copy. Then put the curser where I want the text, go back to "Edit" and click on paste. All left clicks. The right click method seems to do the same.
  8.
If I can't get it done after all your terrific explanations, I'm going to donate my computers to the Salvation Army, and you'll never hear from me again. So wish me luck, 'cause I need you all.

Joe, just keep working on it. We need to keep hearing from you!
  9.
TexasJoe, if you have a young kid in your neighborhood that you know well, ask him to show you how to do it. Kids know more about these
computers than we ever will and they will be glad to show up the old folks. Nothing like someone physical being there and showing you how to do it. Good Luck and keep posting.
  10.
Great advice, Lois! TJ, the others have told you ways to do it, but watching someone do it in front of you is easier for me! Just stay with us!

If you don't get it - so what! You just have to re-type what you did. Problem solved!
  11.
Hi everyone…..this is a Word document. If it shows up as a comment, I DID IT!!!
  12.
You did it TJ! I knew you could. LOL
  13.
Hurrah Texasjoe...did you use the mouse buttons???
  14.
Thank you Vickie! I did, phranque, and clicked on the edit functions to copy then paste. Any idiot could have done that, so what does that make me??
  15.
An informed idiot??? (Grin) Kidding, of course.

Hey hey hey, Charlotte...I resemble that remark! They say 72 is the new 70, so there!

I feel so empowered being able to learn at this advanced age. Maybe I can learn how to tap dance (big fan of Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain).
