Speaking of berries, and we were a few thoughts back, we live where we roll through summer w/fresh self-picked available berries from strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, gooseberries, then sweet corn. (Eventually, frozen winter comes.) Plain frozen blueberries are a snack I enjoy, but I'm going to go out of my box and buy some quality vanilla ice cream and add amaretto, whip 'n eat. Yummy sounding.
Yeah, Zibby - that's my recipe for berry desserts. Place the ice cream in the refrigerator until it is just a "little soft", pour in a few blubs of Amaretto..stir around...then spoon over the berries. yummeeeeeeeeeee.
I just skimmed through this whole thread, and I am SOOOOOOOO confused. Did someone say that if you are on SS disability, and are at a poverty level, you qualify for drugs paid by Medicaid? Even if you're not on Medicaid? Looks like a call to the Medicaid woman who is writing the article for this website is in order.
Sid is on Medicare, but my insurance plan pays for his prescriptions. Co-pays went up as of July 1st. $50 for a 3 month supply of a NON GENERIC, and many of his pills do not have generic substitutions. At least 6 of them. I'm looking for ways to cut costs. I already switched the 3 month generics to Walmart - I mentioned above in another post that Walmart is only $10 for 3 months of a generic. No deals on the non-generic.
When I called the Canadian Pharmacy they offered Generic for Namenca and Aricept at about 2/3 the price for the name brand. Is anyone taking the generics?
I don't think there is generic for either one. Our PCP always marks the precriptions 'Substitutions Allowed". When we get the sheet with the pills it states if it is whatever the generic pills are "FOR" the name brand. Hope that makes sense!
There are generics for drugs in countries other than the US. I'd trust a Canadian generic. I'd worry about an Indian one. I did look at that site. They tell you which countries the drugs come from.
The Canadians let you choose which country you want to get your drugs from. Some countries are much cheaper than others. The U.S. is usually the highest cost. My husband has been using the generic Lipitor from India for 2 years. I was worried at first, but no problems so far. Do we really think Canada/UK/India is interested in killing off their own citizens with bad drugs, anyway which is worse, dying from bad drugs or dementia? I got generic Fosamax from Canada for a couple of years before it was available here.
On my husbands Medicare D plan, Namenda is only $ 39.00 a month. Always ask your Neurologist for samples. We have been fortunate enough to have been give samples that have covered the Aricept this entire year so far If we only have to buy it Oct- Dec. Yeah! The Namenda samples lasted until May. DO NOT be embarrased to ask.
My DH get's his med from the V.A. Memantine for Namenda and Donepezil for Aricept. The containers have the Namenda and Aricepts labels on them but then the V.A. has the other labels attached. I just took for granted that they were giving the generic.
Thanks to Kathi37's note above, I now know how I want to "dispose" of hb's 10 mg Aricept. He was put on Exelon patch this week. If interested, send an email.
