Has anyone tried Reiki on their loved one? There has been a practicitoner at my husband's facility once a week for the past few weeks. Some family members have had it done on their loved ones and gotten good results. One gentleman has been very restless at night and started sleeping through the night. Others have commented that their person seems calmer too.

I did take a class on it and have used it on my dh. The only change in him is that he is calmer. However, I also tried on 2 of my cats (one very fat and one very old). The fat cat has a lot more energy and is interacting more with the other cats. The old one gets very carsick (going to and from the vet) so I gave her a treatment while at the vets. She didn't throw up on the way home.

One of the questions I asked was if it would make them better. The answer was no, it probably would not make them better, but it could improve how they were acting at the stage they are at. It can also help them with "transition" and passing.

Has anyone tried anything like this?
  1.
Can you explain what Reiki is?
  2.
I found explanation by going to Keyword: Reiki. A Japanese massage therapy..a laying on of hands..to reduce stress.

It's a form of energy healing. When our Shih Tzu, Millie, was attacked by a german shepherd and the vet didn't think she would live, our priest (lady-Episcopal), who practices this, went to the vet hospital everyday and did this to Millie. Vet said he had never seen anything like it, that it totally calmed Millie and she began to respond. When we brought Millie home, priest came over and also did it on DH and myself; and taught me the basics. I use it occasionally on DH, Millie and myself. I figure, anything that works!

Indeed Reiki is helpful for some things. A friend of mine is a certified Reiki practitioner. He has done similar healings on animals, shocking veterinarians, but most impressively he did do a series of healings on a man with dementia. (Now that I know more, I do not know if it was Alz or vascular -- sorry). After the first one, which he did free because it was the father of a friend of a friend, the family asked him to come back -- the man actually ASKED for more healings! I've had Reiki healings myself and they were very helpful.

HOWEVER -- if you try to pursue this, be very certain that the Reiki healer is really a good one, not just a fake claiming to be a healer. Desperate people are easy victims of unethical con persons. It is hard to believe that anyone could be so cruel as to take advantage of people who are dealing with situations like this, but there are plenty of fakers out there just waiting to take your money. The best way to find someone good is if you can ask around and talk to someone who has used them successfully.

If anyone is in the Long Island area, I can give you my friend's name. He is inexpensive and I totally trust him.

I went to a Reiki demonstration last year. I sat while the practioner held her hands over my head and did whatever it was she was supposed to be doing. Honestly, I felt nothing, but didn't want to hurt her feelings, so said I felt less stressful. I don't remember writing a blog about the experience, but I'll look. The teacher I had said that you might not feel anything but that doesn't mean that it isn't working. Taking some of that stuff on faith is a bit difficult for me - I really like concrete evidence.

What was interesting is the various reactions of people in the class. Some felt heat, others saw images, and other felt nothing - all worked on by the same practicioner. I felt heat. I had been having problems with numbness in my hands but have not felt that since the treatment. I was attributing that to the fact that the heat felt so good on my shoulders that it relaxed the muscles in that area.

I look at it in that if it helps my dh even if I don't see anything, it is good.

Remember, like any kind of health care, the result you get depends on the skill of the practitioner. (I shudder when I think of some of the things posted here about insensitive M.D.s) It's a lot easier to see a result if you have an acute condition, as I did when I had Reiki the first time. There are an AWFUL LOT of people who take some evening class and then set up shop as practitioners, and they are totally unqualified. In all of these alternative healing things, it's necessary to make sure that the person you're giving money to is actually competent and not just some scammer. There are sure plenty of people out there who are more than willing to take advantage of you.

i looked it up and there is one near where i live. i would consider it for pet therapy as i have seen the dog whisperer uses this therapy along with acupunture for behavioural issues with aggressive fearful dogs on his show. dont know if it works or not personally but the dogs on his show just are so mellow while they do the therapy and so calm when its over. quite amazing. divvi
