DH and I going on vacation by air. In the past, he has not dealt with ear popping very well to the point of screaming. anyone have any experience or suggestions for minimizing "ear popping" during air travel with LOs?
Chewing gum. Tell him to keep swallowing. Drinking something. Eating. Most of which is hard to do when you are taking off since most ear problems occur when ascending and descending.
i would take him to an ENT dr the week before the trip. they can check for earwax buildup which can cause it or pain during flights. also maybe an eardrop med to help. if ther is already congesting in the ears due to cold or sinus it can cause pain and wont be able to clear the canals with the air pressures.
on another note, on some airlines in central america when my son was small and ear issues the flight attendant would give 2 plastic cups each with a cotton ball w/alcohol inside each cup. and hold each plastic cups over one ear descending and acsending. works -dont ask me why!if all else fails. divvi
thank you so much! Probably last vacation together; DH is latter stages but this was our special place and feel strongly about going one last time. seems selfish but i watched Notebook movie over the weekend and still hoping for that special 5 sec of him remembering that it would always be "our place". traveling with 2 caregivers so i am almost convinced this will work. thanks again!
We just returned from visit to son in LA. DW chews gum almost constantly so ear popping did not seem to be a problem. I'm sure that will be our last plane trip ... just too much hastle. When we got to the airport they were offering an upgrade to business class which we took and I'm glad we did ... It made the 5+ hour flight a little easier. Even though we were only a few feet from the lavatory, DW did not remember each time where it was. I clued in the flight crew about her situation and they were very helpful. Each time she got up they showed her where the toilet was and how to lock the door.
As you know, from 35,000 feet when you look at the ground it is hard to tell you are moving. DW was sitting by the window and kept looking at the ground. After a while she asked, "Why are we just sitting here?" ... Oh well.
