Thinking about poor Joan and her "undealable" husband. That's a good word, Joan.

I was wondering if there were Seroquel Patches..or patches for the other medications we use to keep our precious charges calm. :-0

The doc or nurse could put the patch in place and maybe, just maybe, if it was on their back between the shoulder blades, they'd forget about it. If the patches don't exist, they SHOULD! Mother used a nitro patch for her angina and she loved it! I vaguely recall the birth control patch. :-)

There has to be a way to help Sid get through the day without driving Joan and Phranque (and the rest of you) crazy. This is just toooo sad. When I think I've got it bad, I have to think of you guys and I'm sooooooooo grateful he is silent and sleeping all the time. Nancy
  2.
Joan does he take suppliments? Is it "doable" to empty a suppliment bottle of capsules and put the evening med in a empty capsule .(you can buy empty capsules)
  3.
Joan--I've been thinking about you too. There just has to be some way to fool Sid into taking the evening pills. It reminds me of countless stories of people with bipolar disorder--they think they are better and stop taking the meds. You said he would taste the pills if they were put in food--well, maybe applesauce, yes, but how about something spicy? Or even half a crushed pill would be better than none. I do like Imhor's idea of the empty capsules in the suppliment bottle.

Thanks for everyone's input, but if you read the Wed/Thur. blog, you will see that he has agreed to take the afternoon pill. He took it yesterday with no argument. He doesn't like taking it, but he's taking it.

HOWEVER, I think Nancy B's idea of a Risperdal or Seraquel (sp?) is a GREAT idea. As far as I know, they don't make them.

Joan, In my case if my dh made an agreement like that I couldn't count on it to last 2 days. But, good luck. Everyone's situation is different.
Thinking of you. Hospice had something that came in a cream to rub on the inside of the wrist but I don't think it was very strong.

problem with patches, i used HRT patches for a long time...is they have to be placed sometimes in a place for direct absorption..not just anywhere out of reach..:(

my DH had a patch and just ripped it off as soon as i put it on..

glad it was a truce fo ryou this time joan but it did come at a price too. your stress levels and BP i am sure go off the charts even if you are bargaining! divvi

Joan, with your past working experience helping you to negotiate with an AD LO, could you possibly give the rest of us a crash course? :-)
  6.
I could use some help too. I am trying to negotiate our selling our truck we no longer need. His claim is he wants $13,900. for it, which would be retail and I am trying to sell it wholesale to a dealer. They offer $11,000. sight unseen. He really wants to leave it in our garage. I told him how much it was depreciating every month, enough to buy us breakfast out for a month, no go. Told him they would give us $13,000. AD white lie - no he wants $13,900.. Today I told him we would stop at the Car Store and check out a new Hybred, which he has wanted for a couple of years. If we sold the truck and traded in the car on a new one that would be better for us. We looked, sat and talked. They want us to give them our car so we are still thinking. Not doing anything until the truck is gone. Last negotiating I told him I was going to take it in tomorrow when I went to town and if they would give us $13,900. I was going to leave it. " NO NO you're not. You are not going to sell it until I die. Last word."

    Hi All,

I know that some AP's like Risperdal come in weekly and some monthly injections. They give them to persons with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder who have trouble with remembering to take their medications or have no insight that they need meds. I have no idea if they give those injections to people with Alzs but it might be worth asking? You guys are great caretakers!!! Best Regards TD

Lois, that must be quite fustrating not being able to sell that truck for that amount. its sounds like avery good deal. what would happen if you 'sell' it like you say and just come back with the check for 11k, and extra 'cash' (from your own account to make up the 13,900 difference?? haha i would be quite devious if i had to. show him he got what he 'asked for'..? you are right you could get alot of good times out of the extra cash. and its sitting there losing money. with cars so cheap now.. divvi

    TD-thats a good suggestion

Is the injection an intramuscular injection.
  8.
I posted this after reading Lois' question and didn't see Divvi's reply.....I like her suggestion!!

Here is what I originally said...

Lois, what do you think he would do if you went ahead and sold it? Remember the reason button is broken and you can't reason with him. I see that you have three choices: 1) sell it anyway; 2) leave it parked until he is bedridden and then sell it; or 3) if you don't need the money, honor his wishes and keep it until he passes. I personally vote for number 2. You aren't going to convince him any differently. But, if you need the money for a down payment on a new car, then I would go ahead and sell it. Talking to him about it (and of course this subject is the one thing he keeps remembering like Sid and his driving) can't reach his reason button, so you are out of luck there. I wish I could be of more help!

I'm keeping my husband's car simply because it's a Chrysler Sebring convertible, and I love driving it when the weather is nice, and I drive him around in it when I can put the top down. It's the teenager in us!

Hi Nancy, Here is a quick reference article..:)
    http://www.medicinenet.com/risperidone-injection/article.htm
  9.
If he doesn't agree I will just go with #2. I just hate to see it sitting there losing value but I am not going to sell it until he agrees. He is passive and I don't intend to let a 4 yr. old truck with 9,000 miles on it stir up conflict. Divvi, I was going to do what you said with the extra money, my friend calls it "fudging". Don't need the money for a new car nor do I need a new car but if that would help do the deed I would go along with it - AFTER the truck is gone.

I agree, he is dug in now more than ever. He was the one bringing the idea up a month ago and I had sil get it detailed. Should have made the move right then while he was in the mood. Small skirmish on the battlefield.

good reply mary, i guess it does come down to granting him his wish- but with the auto market moving into hybrids and new technology, lois you would more than likey get nothing in a yr or so for the same auto parked in a garage. always looking for a way not to lose money, haha. and if you can sell and get a new car cheap in this market, without paying much for it with 2 cars sell/tradein to boot, why wouldnt you? better gas mileage and less insurance! i bet he would be very happy riding in HIS new car. use the savings as added coaxing..divvi
