I mostly lurk here - but now I have questions. Dh is 65, at stage 3, maybe 4. We still have 4 children at home, our own business, own our home. I was advised to see an elder lawyer to get things in order.

We are going in for a "meet the lawyer" consultation. What questions do I need to ask? What do I need to know?

    Thank you.

By the way, thank you for sharing your lives - it is encouraging (even the bad days).

Martha there have been a lot of advice about this. I will see if I can find a thread and bring it to the top for you and others. Lois

    Martha,

While lmohr is looking up the threads, I will try to fill in a little information. In the first place, the lawyer will ask YOU a slew of questions to lead in the direction of where you want to go. Every State is different, which is why it is difficult to give you specifics.

You'll want to get Power of Attorney; Health Care Power of Attorney; Living Will (what you and your husband want and do not want as far as "prolonging life"); Wills. As far as the money is concerned, who gets what when, and if you want to protect your assests in a case of applying for Medicaid - the attorney should bring up all these issues and give you a multitude of options.

Just noticed after I posted this - lmohr brought up the thread on wills, etc.
