There have been a couple of times I have been out in public with my granddaughter and husband and have needed to take my granddaughter to the bathroom. I have had my husband wait outside. The last two times I did this, he didn't know where I went and was happy to see me. I really think that I can't take him with me again but I wonder about the two of us in public. There are times when I've taken him to eat. How do you handle it if your spouse has to go to the bathroom?

When I have my 2 1/2 yr old grandaughter, I boldly go where no man has gone before....
I knock on the ladies door, announce my intentions, and beg permission to enter. If there is no one there, I enter and take care of her needs, and listen for the door to open..Occasionally I will yell out that there is a man in the ladies room......If someone is in there, I ask them to stand guard for me, usually I encounter no problems. I would rather use the ladies room and would not dare take my grandaughter into the men's room...I would rather get hit with a purse than confronted by a pervert...
Yes it is embarrassing, but I am learning that alz is no longer a reason to be embarrasses.
If that doesn't work, pound on the door, YELL THIS IS THE FBI..GET DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW!!!!
then casually take care of what needs to be done...This works for any man attempting to enter "NO MAN's land....

Many places now have "family bathrooms" where men and women can go to take their children of either sex. Works for AD spouses too.

I know someone who carries an "out of order" sign around with him. He puts it on the ladie's rest room while he is in there tending to his wife's needs, and then takes it off when they come out. What's the phrase? Necessity is the mother of invention.

lol phranque. i think i will need to bring dh with me into the bathroom when i take my grandaughter. on the other end, i guess i would need to pound on the men's room door to take my dh in to use the bathroom. i guess you do what you've got to do

I would suggest you use the ladie's room.....not sure men would handle having a lady in their territory......the ladies room is safer...(never heard of a female pervert)...let him use the ladie's room, and you can handle both at the same time. I found most ladies most helpful and I am sure that do not mind....but make sure he puts the seat down...........

DW can handle bathroom OK by herself right now as long as I show her where it is and watch when she comes out because she's easily disoriented. One of the large malls near us has "Family Restrooms" with a locking outer door. I also noticed one at a new McDonald's that I think will be an options for the future. It's in the children's play area and we might get some strange looks but what-the-heck.

Some men do not seem to mind. Years ago when I was a McD's employee, we were in cleaning the men's bathroom. Even though the 'closed' sign was out, that did not stop the men from coming in. We were busy scrubbing the walls where some teenager probably had smeared poop on the wall. They would even chat with us while standing at the urinals - didn't seem to bother them at all.
