Have you heard about the conficker virus set to attack tomorrow. I Googled it and apparently it is real. Aside from scanning and updating my Avira what can I do. It's supposed to be already implanted already.
  2.
Reports in my newspaper today say it should not be a problem that your virus program will take care of it.
  3.
My sources all say to go to www.microsoft.com and download a patch that is supposed to help you not be attacked. I run antivirsus--worm---trojan programs but still downloaded the patch. Pays to be safe....Ann

Microsoft.com says if you have anti-virus software you will be protected, as long as it is updated!

Also, if you have automatic updates with windows you are suppose to have the patch.
  6.
I have Norton and ran a check for live updates and they're all there. Hopefully that will do it.

Yesterday I discovered that when my computer was in trouble they got rid of my automatic updates. I got updated. I also ended up running every virus and malware program I owned. Took most of the day to do that. What was weird was that my mainstays, McAfee and a good malware program Dell put on my computer didn't catch anything, but two secondary programs they gave me each caught something. Don't know if it was the worm they were expecting today or not. I've been watching the Internet indicator on my modem and it isn't doing anything weird, so I guess what I did took care of whatever needed to be taken care of.

Hope all of you are also computing safely today.

    Good article at:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conficker

The last I heard, no one knew what the malware was supposed to do today. They did not think it was designed to significantly disrupt computer usage, however. It is more likely designed to steal financial information, passwords, account numbers, things like that.

If anyone steals my financial info they're in for a sad surprise

    Hey Frank (with a PH).

I too was confused about some of the abbreviations that were not listed. TTT means go back and see what this topic is supposed to be all about, - obviously we have either strayed, or we're asking questions that were answered back at the beginning.

FIL is father in law. I think that is listed. I liked the one called MINFH which is Mother in law from hell.

One that is not listed is FTD. THat is not floral telegraph delivery. It is for a form of Alzheimers that is Frontal Lobe Dementia. which is like Pick's Disease, which you may have heard of.

Initials that start with D usually mean Dear...such as DS Dear sister, DH dear husband, .. etc. Sometimes we have to use our imagination, which is more fun than what it actually stands for. Some initials are simply NOT KNOWN. just skip that part..

That should bring you up to date, my friend. Now you know everything I do.

    Frank,

On the home page, left side, scroll down--there is a section for Web Abbreviations--that should help.

...except for the abbreviations that aren't in it! <grin>

ttt is "to the top". It means someone brought up a subject that was addressed in an earlier thread, and one of us has retrieved it and brought it to the top so the person can read it.

Nancy, we are VERY LUCKY here. If you ask a question that has been asked before those of us who have been here a long time will either answer it again, or go and find the old threads for you and bring them up to the top, or BOTH.

You have not strayed. It is OK to ask anything. And we don't expect you to go and look through all the threads first. On occasion one of us who have been here a while will remember that there is a long thread with great information in it, which is the only reason we will suggest that you read that thread too. The driving threads, for example, are truly amazing.
