I think the liablility for driving golf carts is the same as a vehicle. or boat atv etc/ I know of a friend who allowed her under age no license grandson to drive the golf cart caused a nasty wreck and paid dearly for it. I believe you need a valid license just like a car to run one. and I would be leary of allowing them access to driving on public roads. everything it seems is a liability with these guys. but better safe than sorry. you should also have insurance on any recreational vehicle as well. you should speak to your insurance carrier but dementia is dementia. lack of awareness and ability to respond in emergencies is going to be an issue with any type of moving vehicle.

I agree with you, divvi. A golf cart can run down a child just as easily as a car. Motor vehicles are motor vehicles, whether they are on the road, on the sidewalk, in the bush, on the snow, or on the water. Which is why, since my DH can no longer drive, I have gotten rid of the motor boat as well as his access to the car.

A golf cart is a motorized vehicle. Because my husband is not a licensed driver he can not operate one legally. His lack of judgment is severely impaired and even if it was legal I wouldn't allow it to happen. Now a pogo stick is another option...lol

I see problems. My wife was in a bicycle accident due to her dementia. Fortunately the other person wasn't hurt but my wife suffered a TBI. A lot of damage can be done with a golf cart or bicycle or large tricycle. Someone suggested a large trike for my wife and fortunately we didn't have any room to put it so I didn't have to argue the point (or just say no).

    Bqd,

Glad I brought a chuckle ....okay. A pogo stick with dressing gown flying up....depends dropping low. Yikes, now that's a real visual.

Pogo stick, that's the way to go. My dh ask me if he should fight the lic being revoked(he has 20 days) I told him it won't do any good with having alz. I hope that doesn't come back to haunt me.
