I often take my LO with me when I run errends. Sometime I take her inside with me but very often I leave her in car and turn on radio for her to listen to something like country music. Naturally, I have to leave the keys in the ignition. She would never know how to start the engine. But, she does like to play with the window buttons and door lock button. Sometime I leave the windows cracked for some ventilation (winter). Well------this week I came back to car and she was listening to her favorite music and had locked the doors by playing with the switches. It took me a long time to talk her into how to punch the locking button. finally I switched to the window button and OLAYYYYYYYYYYY. She finally opend her window.
My recomendation now is to always take the keys and forget the radio. I try to have a magazine or something for her to read. If it cold, she does not want to get out so prefers to stay in car.
It happened to me about a year ago. I gave him hell, of course, made a big show of saying not to play with the buttons thereafter, and I always leave the driver window open about 3". I also have an extra key stowed away where I can find it outside the car (one of those little magnetic things) We haven't had a problem since, and he really enjoys listening to the radio.
bille, I have been thinking this is in the future for me and also thinking I should keep the extra door key in my purse or in your case pocket. That would let us go ahead and leave them in the car with it running for AC or heat, which you usually need one or the other. I also talked to my son in law about making me a "chock" that I could slide under the gas feed if I think it necessary. I am going to go ahead and put the extra valet key in my purse in case I should need it.
Great idea! I have a Mercedes and they have these FOBs, not keys. I think there is something I can buy though that would open the door. I'm going to go to the dealership this week and get this worked out. I don't think he could get over the console to move the car, but he certainly punches lots of buttons in the console. I always push the Emergency Break all the way to the floor, just in case.
Anyone out there know if I can get a regular key to open the car door? There is a pin inside the FOB that works, but that's not the kind of thing I would carry in my wallet. Help!
i would not not not leave them in a car in the front seat with the vehicle running. i am hoping all of you doing this have them in the BACK seat if you are running to do a quick errand. child lock doors on so they cant leave the vehicle and back seat in their seatbelt so they cant reach the ignition or wheel...my DH locked me out not long ago and i have a coded entry on my door to get in just incase. i was sooo flustered he locked me out i could not remember the code for the life of me. i will never ever leave him without taking the keys again. i had a bad 30min trying to get him to punch the doorlock open. i was exhausted mentally by the time he finally opened it. its not worth it. i can only imagine what can happen in the front seat and they have access to the gears. divvi
I definately would take keys with you and even before that never leave them in the car alone. I have found that if I leave my dh in the car while i put a grocery cart away, I get back to the car and he was worried and ancious that I was gone and he couldn't find me. Right now I take him everywhere.
