Joan and I will be on different teams when we walk this Saturday. GC was considering coming but it is too far and too early. I mentioned my NC daughter was flying down to join me. Now don't tell her because this is a surprise: Saturday is her birthday and it will be announced from the podium and there will be a banner for her flying from our tent.

The weather was perfect for the Memory Walk. It was a stirring experience to see all the teams in their brightly colored team shirts walk around the lake in Joan's community. I did find Joan in all the crowd and we walked together for a while. What really pleased me was the amount of people who walked just because they thought it was the right thing to do-no involvement with Ad persons. I asked a woman and her husband who I have known for years why they were so involved with AD and their response: we are very active in out church but wanted to branch out into the community also. Do you think our message is finally getting out there?

And your daughter? Was she thrilled? What a lovely surprise for her.

Unfortunately The banner never materialized but we really had a great day. As a dementia care professional she was able to pick up a great deal of good information from the vendors.

bluedaze, we attended our first memory walk on May 16th, here in slidell, la. it was also the first one that was held on the northshore in our area. It was a beautiful thing to see. I expect my DH and I will be attending more of these. We also picked up a lot of useful information. All of us need to research and spread the word about what is going on in our lives because we know that the more information shared the more help we could receive. If we all taught just one person about Alzheimers and sparked an interest we could move mountains in the name of Alzheimers research. As women we are a mighty force and when speaking about our loved ones, we are a force to be reconned with. Not leaving out the men, but women seem to be the leaders of gaining information ( maybe it is the nosey part of us) when it helps our loved ones.

mammoejamie1 On one of our last trips Bill and I stayed at our time share near Slidell and loved the area. Also enjoyed the local brews-not too sure about the purple one, though.
