A good friend of mine who has his LW bed bound in a nursing home. She was injured several years ago in an Auto Accident. Ray sent me the followng e-mail that I thought was worth sending to you.

"In church Last Sunday, as I seated myself, I noticed an open hymnal on the seat beside me and when I reached to pick it up to return it to its place on the pew shelf, I saw that it was opened to the old hymn, “I’ll Fly Away”. It is a familiar hymn to most churchgoers and was listed in the worship guide as one of the songs we were to sing during services, so instead of returning it, I began to read the lyrics"

The words have a lot of connection with us AD caregivers ahd our LO's. I never thought of our connection to a prison. Bill E

    Dear Bill,

I have always loved this song too. At my husbands memorial service next Saturday, March 28, a gentleman from my church, Eldon, is singing two songs.

Paul's Urn is engraved with birds in flight, and "Going Home." And we chose the song "I'll Fly Away."
He is also singing "It is well with my soul."

Gotta go. I'm gonna cry again. I have always loved these two songs.

I love "I'll Fly Away". When my Daddy was dying I heard this little voice singing and it was him singing "I Come To The Garden Alone. I smile when I hear the song and to know he left this old world singing.
  2.
I also love the song "I'll Fly Away" I feel that the spirit is so free when it leaves the body that's it's really like flying away.

Hi all - I found this in the web:

    I'll Fly Away

Some bright morning when this life is over
    I'll fly away
To that home on God's celestial shore
    I'll fly away

    I'll fly away oh glory
I'll fly away (in the morning)
When I die hallelujah by and by
    I'll fly away

When the shadows of this life have gone
    I'll fly away
Like a bird from these prison walls I'll fly
    I'll fly away

Oh how glad and happy when we meet
    I'll fly away
No more cold iron shackles on my feet
    I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then
    I'll fly away
To a land where joys will never end
    I'll fly away
  4.
An appropriate verse for our LO's.

    New Realm,
Both those songs are beautiful choices. I love them also. I'll Fly Away is so bittersweet. My BLH had a brain tumor and chose this song for his funeral.

    Diane,
Thanks for writing out the verses for I'll Fly Away.
  6.
Diana, you chose well. You are a sweetheart and we have you in our thoughts and prayers.

I sent the You Tube to a friend who recently lost her 94 year old father, and her grieving is so deep. He had hospice in the end. Thanks.

Speaking of moving songs . . . Lean on Me is so appropriate to this website. Below are the lyrics, but to do it justice you need to hear it being sung. The link lets you listen to Anne Murray singing it. One of my favorites.

Sometime in our lives we all have pain
    We all have sorrow
But if we are wise we know that there's
    Always tomorrow

Lean on me when you're not strong and
    I'll be your friend
    I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long till I'm gonna need
    Somebody to lean on

Please swallow your pride if I have things
    You need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
    that you won't let show

Just call on me brother when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Lean on me when you're not strong
    And I'll be your friend
    I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long till 'm gonna need
    Somebody to lean on

Just call on me brother when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on

If there is a load you have to bear
    That you can't carry
I'm right up the road, I'll share your load
    if you just call me

Just call me when you need a friend
Just call me when you need a friend...

A song that is very touching to us is by Faith Hill - a number of others as well. It is "If I should fall behind".
It is comforting to hear how someone can write words that create such powerful feelings.
