I found it! You won't believe where!!! In the most current Doctors Foster and Smith Catalog, which is a great pet supply source, I found a product that is called the RapidBath Bathing System. It attaches to a standard shower head, comes with a showerhead diverer, hose and an ULTRA CLEANING SOAP/SHAMPOO CARTRIDGE. TAH-DAHHHHHHH!
Go to www.Drsfostersmith.com and enter product number ALY-33683. I think it's a great item for bathing our loved ones and it frees up a hand. I've seen liquid soap/shampoo combos and I'd use that. Dog shampoo is extremely mild, and it could be used, if you don't keep the bottle out in the open!! :-)........ Somewhere we had a quest for a product like this, and when I saw it in the catalog, I couldn't wait to share it. I am ordering it tonight!
You may have hit on a great source of helpful products for dementia care--things that are designed for pets! I've read on other threads that the products designed to get rid of a pet's urine odors are good to use too. I'm going to have to get some pet care catalogs or visit one of the stores at some point.
You know, there has been a lot of discussion on this website about the problems with bathing. I'm wondering if anyone whose LO attends adult daycare has them bathe there? The one my DH attends provides that service, possibly for a fee. But it might be worth it if it becomes a real struggle. Anyone tried this?
That sounds quite different than the one my DH attends--his is called an Adult Medical Daycare--maybe that's the difference. They have a full-time nurse, she can dispense medications if needed, they do weight and BP checks, a podiatrist comes in periodically, they can take clients to the doctor, and as I mentioned, have the ability to shower clients.
It is great, because they do activities all day and I really think that his attendance has been critical to my DH's retaining his cognitive reserve (slowing down the loss).
My wife attends Adult Day Care Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They give her a shower (including washing and drying hair, clipping toe nails) on Monday and Friday. They don't have the staff to do it on Wednesday. This is included in their hourly fee of $12. It also includes a very good lunch, snacks, all the coffee she can drink.
I think the bathing issue has begun for us. Was searching around for comments on this topic and will certainly be checking into the showering device for pets etc.
Not sure if this will be a constant problem but last night, after working in a cattle pen all afternoon, DH matter of factly told me that he had 'already had a shower' and didn't need one and stomped off to bed. Right now, he's put on the same clothes he wore yesterday, grimy as can be (nicely put), napping in his chair before breakfast.
Last summer, there were sometimes 3 showers a day and several changes of clothes sometimes left hanging here and there outside and inside. He would go outside and 'work' then get hot and take off his shirt and etc.. come in shower..put on clean clothes and go back out.. I picked up clothes off the fence, patio. wherever they landed.
We'll see what today brings as he'll be going to work cattle again this afternoon.. yikesss. It has been helpful to read how many of you have managed the bath problems. Thank you all so much.
geez judy! they get 'ripe' enough by themselves without cattle smells! yipes is right. i hope you have an outdoor hose and catch him on his way in:)))it is quite the dilemma to get them to bathe on their own. we have to prod and poke them just like cattle into the showers! ha. good luck! divvi
