Hi all, reading a thread this morning regarding Eugene changing her name to Kathryn and then a comment by someone telling her she should have her OWN IDENTITY, really got me thinking. In my first (the wrong )marriage. i was attending a Bible study/workshop. The Pastor asked us to take a few minutes and then write down a description of ourselves. I was shocked, stunned, blown away by what I wrote = "I am an inadequate extension of Ray." (my now ex) Wow, how sad was that. I began therapy and eventually regained my lost self confidence and became strong enough to shock him by divorcing him. So when I read what was said about Kathryn and her own identity, I knew that as much as I love and adore my husband, I need to continute to nurture who I AM! So that is how the woman who is and always will be proud to be Jim's Wife will be now known as = Susan L.

I think there is a conspiracy afloat to try and confuse us. (smile)

    You go girl!
  3.
All right! Darn it! I must be the one who started all of this, (Nancy B) and I am guilty of having an email address that begins FCathcart............. I will promise to try changing my email address. We are W.O.A.M.A.N., and the sooner I begin to be identified by my own name, initials, and the utility companies, the less challenge I'll have if and when anything were to take my DH out of the picture. It's just such a habit to be Mrs. XXX. I'm a Southern girl, and I still think it's sweet when younger people refer to me as Miss Nancy. It has a sweet sound.

Where is that thread about "zipping my mouth!!!!!) :-o
  4.
    Oh-what have we started!!!
  5.
Bluedaze, it's the story of my life. I make a comment,.. and later learned that I almost sank a ship. Geez!

I'm so enjoying our conversations and I hope everyone we have here understands that it helps to just ramble on in nonsense, sometime. Another thing is that I never thought of Indian food, and I am going to look for some of the dishes on the new Home page. Hey! what if I don't like it...it was a 'spearmint, as the little ones used to say!

    Jean,

I thought bangers were a component of a Scottish breakfast. But I suppose you could put them on the grill, Bratwurst is great on the grill. I know, Bratwurst isn't an English sausage.

Jimmy, Absolutely Bratwurst isn't English sausage. LOL

Bluedaze do you want Lipton tea or Authentic English tea. As long as you don't use it for Iced tea I'll bring whatever you like. I'll even bring a tea pot and tea cozy!!!!
  10.
Jean-some Earl Grey would be nice. I suppose you'll want tepid beer with dinner. Had some Brits over for dinner and offered beer in icy frosted mugs-didn't go over too well

Bluedaze, This may come as a shock but I can't stand Earl Grey Tea and I don't drink beer! If you have Bacardi and coke I am as the commercial says "There". I have been in the states long enough to want lots of ice in my drink. A few years ago I visited my niece in Scotland and they would give you ONE ice cube. One time I asked for more so I got TWO!!!!!

Believe it or not sometimes that happens in Canada too. I still remember the totally shocked looks on the faces of the waitresses when I wanted water with ice in it.

Jean-my all time favorite tea is Constant Comment by Bigalow (sp). Used to be I could only get it in Mass. but we have it in Florida now. Jean-where do you live?

I like Earl Grey Tea, Ice is OK in water and iced tea, however I must draw the line at putting ice cubes in Scotch Whisky. The beer has gotta be cold. I just can't imagine drinking Guinness Stout warm.
  12.
And I'll make like an English waiter and after everyone is seated I'll spread napkins in all the ladies' laps and say, "Thank you very much indeed!"

Jean, how about Chorley cakes -- or were those local delicacies found only in the Manchester area?

Gourdchipper, I am from Liverpool which isn't far from Manchester. When DH and I went home for a visit once he loved the Chorley cakes. Well.... really he loved all the cakes. LOL We had one shop that sold Cream Slices which I loved. They had pink frosting that was delish! I used to separate the sections and put all the cream on the half with the frosting. Of course I ate the other half first.

Jimmy, I can't imagine drinking Guiness warm or cold! You know doctors would sometimes prescribe it for people who had anemia. I'm glad I never did. I do now, but just pop a pill once a day that is the same color as Guiness. You folks are bringing back a lot of memories for me. It's a good thing I got over being home sick a long time ago.

OK, July 4 at Bluedaze's place. I'll need time and directions. Sounds like fun. I vote for Bratwurst on the grill--sliced open and 1/2 served on a hot-dog roll with mustard. You can tell, I'm not a purist and I really do like those things. But they are so big and have so much fat, I feel I have to be noble and only eat 1/2 of one. I may go back and get the other half later :)

    Mawzy,

Brats definitely have fewer calories if you only eat 1/2 at a time! Same with Jean's cake.

I lived in Wisconsin, where people eat lots of brats, for 30 years. I never liked them. In fact, I refused to eat them. Let's have some hamburgers, too.

    Will there be fireworks?

What's with the Earl Grey and Constant Comment? I think Jean should bring Long Island Tea.

...although I gotta say, the offer of trifle is terribly tempting. Scrumptious!

redbud, you are officially a member of this family for so long as you wish to be, Texas beef or no.

Is it unpatriotic to have (Mexican) margaritas on Independence Day? Deb, are you coming and bringing that great recipe? bluedaze will have plenty of fresh Florida fruit for juice.

Its a treat to be here this morning for sure. Yessireee, independance day.. I'll come and bring cheese and fruit..it might go with the various teas and certainly with
hot or cold beers. Maybe melons would do. The past couple of weeks have renewed my interest in having a bottle of 'Crown' tucked away for medicinal purposes. I'll just pick up a couple of extras and bring them along.

I need to know how many dogs and cats are joining their people so I can prepare for them. Dennis and Meeko are looking forward to the company. I'm sure my nieighbors will be delighted.

    Hi Everyone,
I'm so happy that my name change has resulted in such a wonderful party!!!! Actually, I have always been the very independant one in our marriage but I always use the same user name and password when I enroll in anything and (dah!) I am such a neophyte when it comes to learning this darn computer. I am a visual learner- but eventually I get it. Can I join your party? I live in Conn. but a trip sounds good right now. I can bring" tea and sympathy" and some lively music to brighten the day. Anyone offering me good weather about now sounds like my best friend. I am so tired of the cold and snow and rain!!!!!! Thanks all for a great way to start my day!
  17.
Kathryn-this is Florida!!! Sunshine and pool weather every day.
  18.
And maybe citronella oil in the Tiki torches surrounding the pool to discourage any Florida mosquitoes that might try to crash the party?
  19.
GC-since you haven't offered to bring anything your assignment is to carve some huge fruit into candle holders. My husband used to do fantastic fruit sculptures. I'm limited to apple swans and radish roses
  20.
bluedaze, I've crafted some dandy candleholders from gourds in the past -- would that be OK instead of carving them from fruit?

I thought gourds were fruit. No?
  21.
You should try eating one and you'd change your mind! Bitter, bitter, bitter! Actually, they're cucurbits, which I'm guessing would be classified as vegetables rather than fruits, but I've never actually verified that distinction.

I believe the Brits may refer to squashes as gourds, in which case those WOULD be edible, but not the Lagenaria Siceraria variety that are used in gourd crafting. They're all cucurbits, as are melons, cucumbers, etc., but the Lagenaria variety dries with a hard outer shell almost like wood.

According to Wikipedia (I love Wikipedia), there are culinary fruits, and inedible fruits. Edible squashes are "usually regarded as vegetables in cuisine".

Wiktionary defines a gourd as "a fruit from a plant that is a member of the Curcubitaceae family."

Hmmm. Getting to be as complicated as defining a dementia.
  22.
Almost as nonsensically confusing as a response a friend told me about the other day. She was attempting to make a dinner rerservation at an out of town restaurant that she used to patronize, but which had seemingly undergone a recent name change. To make sure she was talking to someone at the right restaurant, she asked, "Is it on the east side or the west side of South Tropical Trail?", to which the girl responded, "It depends on which direction you're coming from....." Right!
  23.
So Sunshyne-are you telling us tha GC is really a fruitcake?

I was TRYING to point out he can carve "fruit" sculptures from his beloved gourds. But this has gotten so confusing, I think he should bring liquid refreshment, instead.

I'll bring a nice blender, along with a pkg of Brats and the fixin's.

Make mine a peach marguirita (or is that a daquiri?) Anyway, I'd like something peach? Can someone do that?

As for fruit sculpture, I know how to make an ocupus out of a banana. Saw it on TV and just know I could do that! :)

I'm going to buy a brand-new outfit and get my hair done. (May also get some new makeup) My daughter bought me a new lipstick thing the other day--it's a lip-stain and then you put on a white overcoat over the lip-stain. Very pretty. And, it really does last most of the day. Really. Iwouldn't say it's 18-hours stuff, but 8-9 easily. :)
