    Where everybody knew his name
The Boston bar that was the model for “Cheers” has laid off a legendary long-time bartender. For nearly 35 years, Eddie Doyle served drinks and welcomed customers. He also raised more than $1 million for charity.

Loyalty counts for zip anymore. He is probably and older man and may have a hard time finding another job. I just hope whoever owned the bar did the right thing so Eddie can get unemployment

That is just rotten! If the bar is not closing, there is no excuse for that. They'll probably replace him with a young kid who will work for 4-5 months for minimum wage and then quit. Poor guy.

Lets all drive up to Boston and picket the place. I know Joan will join us-she doesn't have anything else to do :-)

That is terrible! Any details? Was it due to the economy or something else? I have been hearing 1st hand stories of lay offs. It is really pitiful. A friend of mine's furniture business went bankrupt, she lost her job. It was a family business of over 100 yrs. Then her husband who had been an executive with AAA, got laid off. They are both on unemployment. And scared. Then my best friend who is an IT person for a law firm emailed me yesterday said the "powers to be" had said there would be no lay offs at the firm, laid off a secretary who had been there 8 years, (D.C.) and then two secretaries in NYC. That is just 2 stories, there are more. I AM SO LUCKY TO HAVE A JOB.

    Why was he let go????

This economy is terrifying me. I am now reading it will get even worse before it gets better. I am afraid the companies will lay off those people almost ready for retirement to avoid paying it..and are hiring less costly young people. My husband worked for the same Chemical Company for 38 years before he retired the first time. Not many of ourcollective sons will be able to match that.

Saw it on the news this a.m. Seems he was laid off "due to the economy." Still can't understand why they would cut out the guy who had been there 35 years. He plans to write a book.

Well this is such a shame. During our two week honeymoon, one of the places we went to after London and Paris was to Boston, to go to Cheers! We had such a great time there.

I hope he does write that book, I'll buy one!

During my physical therapy this morning I learned the head honcho had tended bar with Doyle in Boston ten years ago. Made for lively conversation while she tortured me.

Friday will be my last session. After that I will continue at home-sort of. I hope to get back to aerobics after my doc visit next week. I also plan to do the Memory Walk March 28th. Joan will be there if I can find her in the crowd. My NC daughter is flying down to walk with me-is that great or is that great!

Great news! You & Joan need to plan a meet up place.
