Here's a new thing with B. I get home and he is worried that he left the tv on in the "other" house. (We just have the one, which is more than enough for me to keep up with). He thinks it's down the street. He also thinks we have an upstairs and a downstairs (there's just the one level).
Just wondering if this is typical of this crazy disease.

When he was younger, did he live in a two story house. My DH often thinks he is living in his childhood home..He wants to go "sit on the big porch". We don't have a big porch! It was his sister who figured out what he was talking about.

I've read that people with dementia go back in time as they lose their recent memories. Could he be referring to a house you lived in earlier, or perhaps before you met? Even the house he grew up in?

The home DH grew up in is next door and we do own it. We have it closed up, but every once in a while he talks about "moving back home" like when he gets angry. He can't find the keys for the house.

NancyB--I think you and I are on the same wavelength!

When FIL was going thru that issue. He would always ask Why we brought him here? He built the house and had lived in it for over 40 years. I think they just forget their home just as they forget who we, their own children, old family friends, etc, are. Fil talked of his childhood home a few times but not as much as his home (the one he built and still lived in) he just couldn't remember that he was still living in it. Rk

MarilyninMD, I agree. . My DH's mindset moves back and back in time.. and I can almost tell what period of life he is in... For example, about 8-9 months ago, his PCC asked him if he remembered much about the Korean war. He replied that there recently was a World War, but not one specifically in Korea! We knew where he was then!

Yes, when we lived in Canada we had a downstairs. And i'm sure all of his houses that he lived in before I was with him had at least a basement. That makes sense.
