Tonight my husband told me that my last name is not the same as his. He said my last name is my maiden name. When I told him no we had the same last name, he didn't believe me. I had to show him my drivers license and even then he wanted to know why it was the same as his. I have had the last name of "A" longer than I was "B". We have been married 30 years.
Actually, in most states, your maiden name is technically still your legal name. When you marry you take your husband's last name as a courtesy. It does not become your name to use on legal documents until you change it with social security. Unless you change your birth certificate, it is still technically your name. Or that is the way it was explained one time in a newspaper article.
you know what drives me crazy, well my name ia Mary Gail but I have been called Gail from birth, now he has resorted to calling me Mary, he always knew I hated being called Mary, wonder why he calls me that now, it hurts alot, so I kind of know what you are going through, so sorry, I am not his wife so he says most of the time, sometimes I wonder why I put all the time and effort into keeping him around, but I did say till death us do part.
With all the time that has passed I find it quite extraordinary that DH still calls me by name -he used to confuse me with his mamma but in my mind i was quite touched- as his love for his mother was the one constant in his life ( til he met me:) so i am happy to be called either. divv
Deb, Strange you mention your husband calling you by your maiden name. My husband had not called me by my name in some time, I thought I would see if he remembered my name, He knew my first name but my last he called me by my maiden name. I have had his last name for 40 years. When I said, my last name is the same as yours, he said, Really!
