The FDA has just approved a new drug for treating fibromyalgia. It is called Savella, and is expected to be available in March.

"Of the three drugs approved for the disease, Savella was the first in which clinical trial participants reported they experienced pain relief, improved ability to function and improved sense of well-being. ...Savella, which has been called milnacipran through the clinical trials, works on adjusting the levels of two chemicals in the brain, serotonin and norepinephrine, associated with mood and pain."

Developed by Cypress Bioscience in collaboration with Forest Labs.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to see my doc in a couple of weeks and will ask him about it.

I'm on Lyrica now. It works so-so on my fibro and does nothing for my periferal leg pain which it is usually used for.

I have been taking cymbalta about two months for chronic pain and I could tell the difference right away. I have all kinds of things wrong with the lower back. I had surgery in 01 and the doctor told me then it was not going to take care of everything. Then I have a lot of pain with my neck and a tare in a rotator cuff in my right arm. I am also having sciatic pains down the right leg. The doctor did not give me good odds on repairing the shoulder since the neck is involved. Couldn't take care of DH with one arm. I still have some pain but it is so much better. Now if someone will tell how to get a good nights sleep I would be a little bit happier.

Bama-have you tried Melatonin? You can get it most anywhere. Really promotes sleep without a hangover.

Yes, I have been taking Melatonin before going to bed and it does not help very much. I had been using ambien cr but I had several unexplained things were happening. One afternoon I was at a local grocery store and all of a sudden I was disorentated. Nothing looked familiar but I found the check out counter, Wrote a check and located the door going outside. I made it to the car and loaded the groceries and prayed I would get home. Several other little incidents happened and I decided to stop taking the ambien. I don't know if they were the cause but I haven't had any more strange things happening. I just can't get comfortable and even harder is turning off the mind, if you know what I mean. The cymbalta is supposed to make me sleepy but it doesn't. I will check on the trazodon. Thank you, bluedaze and Mary75.
