briegull ...... I looked at imodium on the web but it isn't diarrhea .... it just seems to be that he forgets what it feels like or waits too long when he needs to have a bowel movement.

I've already checked the possibility of a UTI but thats all clear .... I just think this is yet another stage or level we're at and one I'm going to have to get used to.

No Imhor he doesn't have any spinal issues - he isn't as bent over as your husband - he's probably at about the 1 o'clock position at most - its just that he used to stand so straight and tall and walk with a definite and firm step that now watching him shuffel and be bent over ........ it's just hard to watch happening. My husband has AZ as well as Parkinson's Disease.

I've got him a referral to the Memory and Brain Diseases Clinic at UBC but that is about a 4+ month waiting list too ...... everything takes soooooo much waiting time - no wonder we caregivers get so frustrated :(

No, the immodium seems to keep him regular and not quite as uh, soft and messy.

Here's a question for all though - mine seems to not know when he's gone (even when he's on the throne). He has to get up and inspect. He had, many years ago, a hemorrhoidectomy, and I wonder if that deadened some of the nerves and hence awareness. This is not something new with AZ, I've noticed it for years.

Actually briegull ...... not soft and messy ....... just ordinary but for some reason or other not making it to where it should go every time. Also, not aware whether he has gone or not without checking in bowl ..... he's never had a hemorrhoidectomy or any other work done in that area so, in his case, at least, it seems to definitely be an Alzheimer related activity.

At this time, because his BMs are normal in texture, I'd be hesitant to give him Immodium for fear of upsetting the routine .......... as messy as it has been the last while :(

How can you sleep through a party? Well, I guess i shouldn't criticize too much. When our twins were 5 months old, my DH took me to a movie--Solomon and Sheba. I was so tired I fell asleep right during the orgy. He never quite forgave me for that. (grin). So several years later, they were showing this same film on TV. We made arrangements to watch it again. Popcorn, the whole works. Guess what. I fell asleep AGAIN and to this day have NEVER seen that orgy.

Perhaps is just as well. It might have given me too many ideas (silly grin).

It is 12 midnight here in WV and I am wide awake, perhaps because of computer addiction. I had ordered a extra charger for my laptop and it came today. My computer now works nonstop and I am not so sure that is a good thing.
Weather was beautiful here today and going to be warmer tomorrow. My lady is coming in the morning for 4 hours and I am planning a day shopping for a new spring outfit.

Spring is just around the corner. Daffidols and tulips are popping through the ground and we are making preperations for spring gardening. I am real enthused in the spring and until around July and I am ready to quit. My SIL has sowed tomato seeds and they are starting to come up. We plan on lettuces, onions, beets, potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, corn, peppers, squash, cucumbers, sugar snap peas, watermelon, tomatoes, peppers, swiss chard, pumpkins, goards. Our small garden keeps growing bigger.

Garden sounds wonderful. Wish I had the ambition. I'll settle for my orchids and mangoes

I loved my gardening, but haven't been able to do much in the past few years. I've had to do the brush clearing/mowing and weed whacking here the past few years since DH was too compromised to use the equipment. I just had no time left to do my flower and vegetable garden. If DH gets placed I do hope to take time to pick that up again.

can one of you kind souls tell me how i can grow just one plant?? haha. BASIL! i have brought home so many of these plants and tried to replant in pot plants in the sun-out of the sun-partial shade..you name it i did it and they all DIE! on me. i love thefresh leaves-as i make tomatoes/mozarella cheese/basil/vinagrette salad all the time! (luv)

If I can come to your house for my favorite salad I'll tell you what I do with the plants. Of course I live in Florida so the care may be different. I buy the plants in a large pot 4-6" and don't transplant it. I keep it outside in light shade and don't let it dry out-but don't let it get soggy. My present plant is two years old and looke terrible. Time to invest in a new one. I buy them in my local produce store not Home Depot

ok but now you are pressing me-..haha. sharing my salad well i hardly give DH any:)) ps by the way if you luv this caprese salad like me, the LITEHOUSE BALSAMIC dressing at the grocers is absolutely tops! just outrageiously good over this salad right out of the bottle. i have 2 at all times now..divvi
ok, will cut the water some -i have a new plant just got it and been spraying it like in the grocery store..haha. i am at wits end so it doesnt die! i am talking it to death as well ..i know i need respite..divvi

ok-one final question-do you use fresh mozarella or the stuff born in plastic wrap. If I can get to an Italian deli they have their own just soaking in brine. If I'm lucky I can get smoked fresh cheese. Sam's sometimes has mazarella in brine which is pretty good.

oh the fresh by all means when possible! most of our grocers here have the brine stuff in their deli dept. little balls in brine or a big ball that can slice. there is an 'emergency' one i buy called Mozarella Fresca Inc in a long roll that isnt bad if you dont have fresh. this can be sliced and used in sandwiches pizzas too.

luvy this salad too..fav by far. get that dressing if you havent tried. just perfect and no mess. divvi

    sams does carry it too.

Google 'how to grow basil' Here is a link to a video on growing http://www.ehow.com/video_313_grow-basil.html

Here in Washington, it is seasonal and if I remember right, as with any herb you have to keep the flowers picked. (can't remember if basil flowers but do keep it pruned.)

Ah, spring. Today is sunny with a light breeze. There are a few pretty fluffy clouds. It rained last night and everything smells so clean and nice.

Now about the garden, I hope to get 2 gsons to spade my 10X12' patch. Very good soil. I've built it up for over 30 years with compost (my own). Didn't plant gardent last two years but plan to do so this year. I'll do swiss chard for sure, lettuce, tomatoes, summer squash and two tee-pee's of pole beans. Have you ever used the red runner beans? Very nice when they are young. When they get bigger, I take the beans out of the pods and cook those. Like I said, very nice with a little dab of butter.

Some of my perinnials are coming up. Crocuses are in bloom. Roses need pruning. There's just no end to it. But I find gardening to be so relaxing.

As for a vegetable garden, my wife always did that. Three years ago she got so confused in planting it that she mixed all sorts of seeds. It made for an interesting time harvesting. After that summer I decided that we would give up the garden. The next year she kept saying she should get going on the garden, but didn't. This past year there were no comments about gardening. It's sad. This was something she really enjoyed. And I enjoyed helping eat the produce.

Marsh - that is called intensive gardening. When we had a house, I planted that way. Actually more people than you would think garden that way. Of course, you have to make sure the seeds you plant together are compatible.

My son-in-law did intensive gardening for 3-4 years. He's a mason and has all kinds of broken brick and stones. He made three rectangular raised beds out of brick. Filled them with this lovely soil mixture. He grew everything in those beds. You never saw so much stuff. He planted corn, tomatoes, basil, I can't name everything he put in. I think his daughter in law is doing it now.

My wife was a Florida Master Gardener for 20 years, but her interests ran more toward growing flowers and ornamental shrubs, and later gourds, instead of vegetables. I guess she'd had enough of that growing up as a country girl! For about the last ten years of her Master Gardener days, she got all of her volunteer hour credits doing gourd programs for area libraries, garden clubs, etc. Toward the end there, I found myself having to step in and give her more and more help with her programs, but she loved the idea of doing them so much that she even talked me into agreeing, almost a year ago, to do a garden club program next Wednesday -- which I'm going to have to do solo now that she's pretty much house-bound. So I've spent much of today rounding up stuff that I'll need to take to the program -- actually not an unpleasant way to spend several hours -- certainly better than pee patrols!

It is now 3:30 a.m. in WV and here I am. DH just got up thinking he heard Topsy (cat), but she was laying on my bed. I was having a nightmare so maybe it was me. Anyway, after both bathroom visits, I helped him onto my bed, grabbed my laptop and here I am, likely for the rest of the night. I have trouble going back to sleep once I am awake. Looks like everyone else is sound asleep. I'll read some old posts and play more solitare for a while.

Lois, I am up....I woke up about an hour ago after falling asleep on the couch....I don't fall back asleep easily so I am doing the same as you...reading and playing computer games.....and watching some awful stuff on overnite TV....LOL......

It's midnight here on the Pacific coast. DH is sound asleep. Noche is all curled up in a little black ball. So cute. We are expecting a wind and rain storm overnight. I could have told them that late yesterday. I hate to admit it but my arthritis (notice how I claim it as a personal possession?) is really hurting. I'm in a whole lot of pain.

I am just not really sleep so I decided to check out my friends and see what's gtoing on with them.

Looks like there isn't too much activity this evening. Sleep well, dear ones.~

5 a.m. here in WV and I just woke up and dh is sound asleep so can't blame it on him. Topsy keeps meowing for my attention but I can't figure out what she wants. She normally sleeps like a baby.

5 a.m. here in WV. My cat (Topsy) woke me up meowing. She is starting to do that at 2 years old. I guess she senses some other animal outside.
I don't like to leave her in the dark but it is either that or she will wake up husband again.

My cat wakes me up every morning at 6am for food. I use to be able to leave food in her bowl and she would take her time. Last summer she had to stay in the motorhome all day with little exercise, so I had to start rationing her food. I fill up a cup in the morning and pour a little at a time in her bowl. Some mornings she will let me alone if I don't get up, but she knows that is usually a potty break time for me. She is a funny cat - the open bag of food is right next to her bowl but she won't attempt to get into it. Even if we leave all day and she is hungry, she won't. First cat I have ever had like that.

One of my cats is an early riser. He starts walking on my head around 6am. The other guy is still snoozing-both on my bed. If I decide to go to bed late they both glare at me as if I am late for curfew.

Mine does too doneit. She wants in from outside but if I am not ready to go to bed she wants back out.
