I have noticed my DH having difficulty with his speech not all of the time mostly in the mornings when he first wakes up & sometimes at night when he gets tired & was wondering if this is a common problem for AD patients. He sounds like he is a bit drunk when this happens?
Yes, it seems it is part of the ALZ. My husband has had speech problems for a couple years. I do a lot of guessing as to what he is saying. Good luck and hang in there!
Same here. My DH used to simply say off the wall things, but his speech was clear, well articulated. It was simple confusion. In the past few months, as he progresses his words don't come out clearly, or he is obviously having trouble getting out the words he wants. His sentences are also incomplete and disjointed.
We have the same problem, sometimes it does sound like he had very to much to drink, and sometimes he fine. He is talking less and less, I think know I cannot understand him so he just get quiet. He was real clear this moring when I was trying to get him to eat and told me to get my ass out of the kitchen.
Yep, mine's slurring too. Some aphasia - forgetting what words he wants to say, stumbling on them, and sometimes just losing track in the middle of saying "I want... " but now recently the slurring too.
It reminds me of my Dad's first stroke. The stroke affected his speech and he acted like this - forgetting, slurring etc.
He is talking less to us, but when he is having a delusion or hallucination, his speech is very clear to whomever he is talking to. You wouldn't know he had a problem.
This morning my husband kept talking about the boxes from yesterday.
What boxes.
He finally took me into the kitchen and told me he had put them right there on the counter. I asked, do you mean the bags from the supermarket? He said yes.
We didn't go to the supermarket yesterday? There were bags and not boxes. And I still don't know what was setting him off about them, in the first place. ...[sigh]...
Starling your husband sounds just like mine. I have to take alot of guessing as to what he is trying to tell me, sometimes I say can you show me & he does. Some days his speech is clear other days I can't understand a word he is saying at times.
