pcp took one look at DH last week and said "We are going to get him into Physical Therapy" so we start next week. He has bad spinal stenosis along with the Parkenism/dementia and is severly bent over from the waist and his head is also bent forward. They keep trying to get him to hold his neck up but just a minute and he has it down again. I don't know if he will try anymore. Anyway, he was in PT last spring and the exercise did him good so maybe it will keep him on his feet longer.
Imohr, my DH also has spinal stenosis and water therapy was recommended for him. It did seem to help ease some of his pain. After the insurance didn't pay for the therapy anymore, he joined a Wellness Center and really enjoys the hot tub before the water exercises. He says when he sinks down in the hot tub, all his pain goes away. It comes back of course but he gets relief for a while.
They don't have water therapy where we go but I doubt if he would do it anyway. We used to have a hot tub and he would not get in it because of the chemicals. One time when we were on vacation at St Johns, he about drown while we were shorkeling and since then he avoids water (except for showers)
We had a hot tube that basically did not use chemicals. It was kept clean with a silver filter and minimal mild chemicals - thus no odors or irritation. And it really stayed clean.
narrowing of the nerve openings either around the spinal cord or nerve roots that can cause symptoms similar to a pinched nerve; It is not a herniated disc
Thank you, nurse bluedaze. That's exactly how our doctor decribed it. I don't know if it's ever fixed with surgery but my DH's surgeon said his pain would probably be worse if he had surgery.
In 1997 I had two herniated discs repaired and stenosis. The surgeon said he had reamed out the arthritic spurs in the spinal cord. was never clear about what it was. Am I correct in this definition? I'm sure the spurs have come back. In fact, he said the damage was so bad, (from an old automobile accident) that he was sure I would need the surgery again within 10 years. Well, it'll be 12 years in April and I do not plan on having any more spinal surgery. I do have a lot of back pain but not to the point that I would do that again soon. Thanks for responding
