Are you a spouse caregiver who is remarried or in a ‘second marriage'? If so, a new study funded by Alzheimer's Association is looking for participants. All interviews are conducted by telephone, and information is private and confidential. We are happy to answer any questions. Please contact the Remarried Caregiver Study at the University of Michigan: 734-763-4993 or by email at: caregiver@umich.edu

More information was posted on the "other" site:

    Hello everyone,

My name is Sekai and I am a social worker and research assistant at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. I also volunteer once a week as a Helpline Counselor at our local Alzheimer’s Association chapter and so I have much respect for the hard work all of you take on each day as caregivers. I am currently working with researchers at the U of M on an important study that focuses on spouses who are in a late-life remarriage (at least a second marriage that took place later in life) and caring for a husband or wife with Alzheimer’s or some other form of memory loss. We are looking for study participants and I thought this site would be a way to reach out to caregivers. I have posted information about the study below so please take a look. Thank you in advance!

    STUDY PARTICIPANTS WANTED
    Remarried Caregiver Study:

    Alzheimer’s/Memory Loss Spouse Care-giving in Late-Life Remarriage
    (IRB# HUM00014471)
    --------------------------------
Are you in a late-life remarriage (at least a second marriage) and caring for a spouse with Alzheimer’s disease or some other form of memory loss? If so, researchers at the University of Michigan want to hear from you!

As our population ages, adults are experiencing diverse and complex marital and family relationships. At the same time, Alzheimer’s disease and related forms of dementia are expected to triple in the coming decades. Despite considerable care-giving research, virtually nothing is known about the effects of Alzheimer’s disease and care-giving upon remarried couples and stepfamily members.

Study participants are interviewed via telephone at their convenience. The interview consists of questions related to marital history, the experience of re-marriage, disease stage of the person with dementia, and dimensions of the caregiver’s social relations networks, support, and emotional and physical health. You can refuse to answer any questions and all answers are kept strictly confidential. This study is funded by the national Alzheimer’s Association. Findings from this study will help inform further research and development of interventions and policies that can better anticipate and serve the next generations of Alzheimer’s patients, caregivers, and family members. Participants will be compensated for their time.

Sunshyne, I e-mailed them because I would love to participate. However, just can't do it by telephone - too many interruptions in my day to be on the phone long. I asked if they would consider doing it on line. No answer yet.

Vickie, I've been doing one survey, kind of weird but doesn't take much time, and just caved in and agreed to be in a five-year longitudinal study that involves medical tests as well as interviews. So I haven't quite decided if I want to agree to a third!
