The episode last night dealt with one of the characters, Denny, being diagnsoed with AD. He wants to use the drug Dimebon, but can't get in a clinical trial, so his friend goes to court. Next week for the series finale they are going to argue before the supreme court that terminal patients should be allowed to use experimental drugs, and not wait on FDA approval.
I thought it was interesting. I've never seen a TV show deal with AD.
Seems that there was a court case that argued for allowing terminal patients to use drugs without FDA approval
Yes, I have seen the show and Denny has been dealing with possible AD for sometime, at least for the last year or so. I was exhausted last night and I fell asleep waiting to see the show. I never miss it but it had been an exhausting last few days with my husband and sleep got the best of me.
Yes, I have been watching this series and find it interesting and good entertainment. Denny is a good character to show the slow progression of AD. Thanks for pointing it out. It will probably be on the retuns. It's already on some of the cable stations once in a while.
I had heard about the show and that the William Shatner character (Denny) was supposed to have "Mad Cow" disease. A bit odd, but the show is quite quirky. The last episode I watched had him going through what looked like a PET SCAN and testing things like counting backwards from 100 by 7 and who the president of the U.S. was. What struck me about this particular episode is that the show's theme seemed to be about aging.
I'm looking forward to watching the 2-part finale as they are going to argue before the Supreme Court to allow terminally Ill patients access to experimental drug treatments. I find that interesting in that the Supreme Court had decided NOT to hear that case dealing with that issue. They let a ruling stand by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit which ruled that the terminally ill do not have a constitutional right to drugs the FDA considers safe enough only for additional testing. I'm interested in seeing how they will argue the case.
well anyone who watches the series, 'Denny' is a direct link to what we describe as FTD and lack of sexual inhibitions! i havent figured out why they still allow him at work with all his liabilities...:)! dont we wish all employers were so understanding?? divvi
Divvi, he is the senior partner of that law firm, brought in most of the best clients, and was brilliant. He knows how to read a jury and can just sit at the table and nod to James Spader when James has convinced the jury and can stop talking. <grin> If he wasn't the senior partner, I'm afraid he would be long gone. That whole law firm is filled with oddballs. I'm going to miss this show. This is the last season.
And yes, we do wish all employers were so understanding! Even if you aren't the senior partner! <grin>
Denny has so much in common with my dear husband....Senior prtner/owner law practice, best clients , best trials, largest verdicts, best jury polls, etc..and a 'ladies man' just like Denny...awww...(he wasnt always so cute in this aspect along his journey:) he brought me more than one heartache along the way--sigh...i will miss the show too and the guy who pops his lips..haha..! thanks for the info mary! divvi
I really enjoy the series. They always take on something big--asberger's syndrom, agism, Poole (mentally ill) Crane (AD-mad cow), womanizer (alan), drug addiction, the iraq war--I hope it will be replaced with something equally stimulating.
I had seen earlier episodes of the show, but I thought it was a bit too strange. Then I saw a couple of episodes that I liked. It just so happened that I saw this episode where Denny is Dx with AD and it held my attention. I am really looking forward to how they argue the case in the last episode before the Supreme Court!!
Yes,Denny got the drug! I googled it: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/73899.php
I wanted to see the drug that Denny went to the Supreme Court for. I did like the show. Divvi, I'm with you - great ending and great arguments!
Today in Arkansas, there was submitted a bill that formed an Alzheimer's Task Force to study more thoroughly what caregivers need and to seek a cure. Frank Broyles is a part of it. It was on the news. Hopefully I'll hear more tomorrow in the paper.
"Coach Frank Broyles' Playbook For Alzheimer's Caregivers" was the first book I read after I started visiting these AD message boards. Frank was an assistant football coach under Bobby Dodd during my senior year at Georgia Tech back in 1951, and lived in students' housing in an upstairs apartment above a friend with whom I often studied. It was a real (but welcome) distraction from studying when Frank's beautiful young wife Barbara would come downstairs and spread a blanket to sunbathe on the grassy lawn in front of the apartments!
Priceless! What a complete hoot! I'm glad I was awake to see this last one! Oh what a twist and how right they are! MadCow,marriage for legal convenience, and more. Absolutely priceless. The new name of the firm?? Fantasticly well done.
Divvi, the website in my last entry was for dimebon. After reading all that it said, I wouldn't subject my husband to it!!!
As to the double wedding by the Chief Justice, I think David Kelly's imagination tells him NOTHING is impossible!!!! <grin>
Chang, Schmidts & Poole...... It was thought provoking what was brought out. We are becoming an international world, and Americans are falling farther behind. We've got to catch up quickly!
