Hello to all of you. I rarely post on this site but I do read it on a regular basis for support and information.
I thought Thanksgiving Day would be a good day to make this post and this request.
Most of you already know Tracy Mobley, she has written books and been a leading advocate for EOAD, being diagnosed at 36, she has been a true inspiration to myself and many others. Due to her hard work and determination in the face of her own adversity, my granddaughter, our family and many others have benefited greatly.
Tracy started the “Can You Spare a Dime Campaign” last fall for her dream of Camp Building Bridges. Both the campaign and the camp were a huge success. As a spin off to that campaign in preparation for yet another camp this summer “Austin’s Camp Building Bridges” I am starting the “Pay it Forward Campaign”
I know all of us have suffered from the divesting effects of AD and yet we manage at times to gain comfort and strength from others. Some in support groups, some on these message boards, others in close friendships. Don’t our children and our grandchildren deserve some of that same support and comfort?
I am asking that each person on this board to donate as many dimes as they can towards this summer’s camp. If possible recruit your friends into rolling dimes and donating. Just think if each of us could get just one roll of dimes and recruit our friends and family into rolling dimes that could be a real show of support and a great gesture for many kids 12 to 18 that have to live with this disease daily as do each of us. Keep in mind this camp is open to kids from all over the country. Last years camp had kids from New York, South Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, and California. We can spread this campaign across the country.
Tracy has received grants and the support of the National Alzheimer’s Association for the camp. Yet we need to keep raising funds to reach more kids. If you can find it in your heart this Christmas season to help all our children and grandchildren please roll up your sleeves start rolling dimes.
This summer’s camp will be held in July and all information is posted on the Alzheimer’s Association website. All donations should be addressed to Kate Scruggs, Alzheimer's Association Oklahoma &Arkansas Chapter 6465 South Yale, Suite 312, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74136 Memo line write: Austin's Camp Building Bridges
