I have been trying to find a geriatric psychiatrist or a psychiatrist who has experience treating behaviors associated with FTD in Central NJ and I am having difficulty finding one. When I call the Alz Ass they advise me to call the local hospital. There is only 1 psychiatrist in our area who handles dementia patients and he is booking appointments 3 months out and I need to get an appointment sooner than that.

    Can anyone help?

    LFL,

I know someone in Princeton New Jersey who is a psychologist. She has connections everywhere. I will e-mail her and find if she knows anyone.

LFL, I thought maybe the best way to find an expert was to see who is publishing in the field of research on FTD.

THE place that comes up in New Jersey is the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey:

New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine
42 East Laurel Rd., Suite 1800
    Stratford, NJ 08084

    http://njisa.umdnj.edu/clinical/index.htm

The author whose name I've seen the most often is Dr. David J. Libon
    libondj@UMDNJ.edu
    http://www.umdnj.edu/research/publications/fall06/9.htm

Now, most of the papers I've seen from him are on diagnostics, but if he wouldn't be the right doctor for you, he might know who is.

    LFL,

From my psychologist friend in NJ - Call the NJ Psych Assoc at 973 243 9800...they have a service directory of psycholgoists and what they treat...there may be some one in this area who works with a psychiatrist who does this work.
