My hubby (late stage, bedridden) is currently fiddling endlessly with a piece of ribbon, his "toy."This works ,but I'm hoping to find a gadget which he had for months until it broke.Reminded me of a plastic rubeiks cube but was long instead of square. Lately he's been putting the ribbon in his mouth and I've gone from a thin to a wide piece which keeps him from trying to mouth ( possibly swallow ??) it. One catalog (Gold Violin) had a hand strengthening, twistable gadget, unbreakable, which he broke in5 minutes. Amazing how strong our dear dependents are.Must be some sort of survival mechanism since even little babies seem to have that "power" grip.Best wishes to all you brave souls who keep writing;I love your comments. AnnieL, i havent seen that toy you are speaking of, but would like one myself-my DH puts things in his mouth too. almost like when little ones enjoy rubbing that soft silky tag on stuffed animals or blankets right? i think it becomes a tactile way of them to get a feel for what it is maybe -i find DH likes twist things too and will pace in the pm twisting his 'cell phone' antenna to no end.:) it makes a popping noise he likes. sigh, to each his own i guess. i found many toys yours may like in the party stores =go check it out they may have what you are seeking or something that would entertain him..my best, divvi

annieL, you're new! Hi, and welcome to our family...

Never saw anything like what you're describing, but try:

    http://www.rubiks.com

When you click on the "Shop" link (top right-hand button) there's a toy called the Rubik's Twist Limited Puzzle ... would that be something he'd like? I've seen it called "Rubik's Snake" on other web sites.

Or there's Hasbro Rubik's Magic, that's sold at places like ToysRUs:

    http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3107664&camp=PPC%3A204388542

(I've also seen this called the 'Milton Bradley Rubiks Magic")

Reminder - you can get anything you want at Amazon through this website - just go to the home page - www.thealzheimerspouse.com- and click on any of the Amazon links, ads, or logos. The website gets a tiny percentage of every item sold, so it helps keep us free and available to all.

    Thank you.

My mother had a doll that when you squeezed her or turned her upside down and back she cried. She spent hours talking to her.

As I have mentioned before, my husband's toys are his golf clubs. He spends every waking moment moving them around the garage area. If he sees the neighbor guy out, he will bring a couple clubs for him to see...neighbor is very patient with him & tells him they are really nice, even though he has seen them many times. My husband is very territorial, about these clubs also.

I may have mentioned this before--I bought him some stress balls that I read about on this site. He has absolutely no interest in them--when I call them stress balls and explain what they are for, he says "I have no stress." Wow, I wish I could say the same with a straight face!

DW has a stuffed cocker spaniel that she dearly loves, she sleeps with it sometimes. It is eactly the same color as our first dog, a Cocker Spaniel. I sure it brings back memories for her.

Divvi, we don't have a Brookstone...think Barnes and Noble would carry it?

I really wonder why they have to have something in one hand all of the time???????? Like a toddler with a blankey.......

marilynMD - tell him they are boredom balls: something to do when bored. Or exercise balls; frustration balls; feel good or in a good mood balls; etc

A few years ago a lady came in to our office and gave us little cloth dolls that fit in our hands. She said whenever we got mad or frustrated, to throw it against the wall and it would make us feel better. It worked!!! I had mine for years.....I wonder where it is now...hmmm

Mary, They were called "Dammit Dolls". I remember people making them to sell at bazaars. I think one lady sent quite a few to the troops in Iraq. Maybe I should try and find a pattern and make one for myself when DH keeps asking me the same questions over and over.

    Jean, that's it! Thank you!!
