Sorry, Folks, it's been a long time since I put in my 2 cents worth. About a month ago, at the doctor's suggestion, I put my DH in a behavioral unit at a hospital for medication correction and observation. He was there for 2 weeks, then we transferred him to the Memory Care Unit in an Assisted Living facility (say Private Pay!). This has all been almost more than I could stand. First, I believe the hospital/doctor overmedicated him, changed his medication, etc because he became agressive on 3 occassions, all of which I understand his point of view. The MCU is continuing this medication regiman, and he is somewhat of a zombie. Next week I take him to his regular physician and will have a talk about his medications. Other than medications, he is doing very good, eating well, gaining weight, but still talks out of his head -- he worked in the pastures all morning yesterday. Also he is losing his ability to hold his urine until he can get to a commode which is causing some accidents and embarrassment.

sthetfor, I am so sorry for what you and your husband have been through. Please let us know what his doctor says. Can you get him to wear Depends? Some of the caregivers have given many different ideas on help in that area. Keep in touch!

Mary, thank you so much for your caring thoughts and words. I have just felt so alone and confused these past months that I have just kept to myself. Do you know if you cry in the shower then no one knows? Yes, I'm still working a full time job and I thank God every day that I have it to come to. Yes, it has been very difficult, but, and this is awful of me to say, but also a relief of sorts. I never knew what I was going to come home to find, never got a full nights sleep, nor any rest. Many thanks again!

Sthetfor:Crying is good, it must be cause I do it all the time. Everything reminds me that he is not home to help. I must have given my DH the impression that I need help because he always asks me if I have someone living with me to help me with the yard and other outside chores. Everything reminds me of him being here at home. I couldn't even give out Halloween candy because that was his favorite thing to do was dress up and hand out candy. I know that this is the first holidays with him not being at home and that will be a big hurdle but this website is terrific and has helped me over other things in the past.
    No we are not alone
