To those of you who voted for my Alzheimer Chapter's "Early Detection Matters" project (see last Friday's blog), THANK YOU. American Express just awarded "Early Detection Matters" a $1.5 million grant. To read about the project, copy and paste this link -http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/OGSSPK/?cid=MP08_email_winner2. I hope the link works - My computer is in the repair shop, so I am using Sid's laptop - I don't have the web design software on this computer, so I cannot post anything on the website this afternoon. (I did post a blog this morning before I dismantled the computer.)
If copying and pasting does not work, go to Friday's blog about the project on the home page - www.thealzheimerspouse.com- and click on the link listed in the blog.
You are all aware of how important I feel early detection is - You can read the two most recent blogs on the subject by going to the "previous blog" section on the home page, and scrolling to #195 and #266.
I will keep you posted on how the money will be used.
Another important step is advocating that people who are diagnosed early and either have no symptoms or mild symptoms are allowed to participate in clinical drug studies. This is the bind that EFAD people have been in. They know what they have AD but can't get into any studies.
Lizbeth, some of the trials are now accepting patients as young as 50, and there are more and more trials for MCI. So they have been listening ... a little! We just need to keep pushing harder.
