I was deployed to Dallas Texas and we traveled to Marshall Texas and set up a shelter for evacuees with special health care needs. We then turned that over to a federal team and were sent to Houma La where Gustov came on land. They have 2 hospitals there and one was too damaged to open so we set up tents and worked as an emergency room for the time we were there. There was no one with power when we arrived and no potable water. We worked in tents that were 100 degrees inside, no air conditioning. No showers, no laundry services until the last 2 days there. We cared for everything from heart attacks and broken bones and lacerations to simple colds. We were seeing about 100-150 patients per day and there was 4 providers so we were busy. I was gone a total of 15 days. Another team came in and relieved us. Although the working conditions were not the best, it was a nice deployment. I was at Katrina and was one of the team that set up the medical services for the evacuees at the airport there right after the hurricane hit. It was the most austere conditions I have ever experienced. We saw 3000 patients the first 5 days. The 2 weeks I was there will be forever in my mind. It was beyond discription. We watched people die waiting to be transported out. There I took care of rape victims, stab wounds, gun shot wounds and of course dehydration and sepsis because of the length of time some were out there before help occurred. Anyway, Gustov was a piece of cake in comparison. Wednesday, my DH and I are going on a 2 week cruise, I am looking forward to that trip.!!!
Thanks, Sandy D., for sharing with us. Watching the destruction on TV does not even come close to revealing the real trauma. You gave us just a small insight to what was really going on. Hope AD symptoms go away while you're on the cruise. We'll be thinking about you and wishing you the best relaxation possible.
WE got our flu shots yesterday too. and DH has been out of sorts since - He had a first peed the bed and he never does this (my only salvation to the poop patrol:) i think the flu shot had something to do with it and his myclonic jerks were more severe today as well after not having them for a while. he walked in a daze this pm too. wierd. has anyone else noticed vaccinations like this causing disorientation? plus my arm is toooo achy today! hurt like the dickens. lady says the vaccine was 'fresh' out of fridge and cold! ugh...i paid the price. glad its over with now at least. divvi
Had flu and pneumonia shots Sat. am. Later Sat. he came out of the bedroom and very emphatically told me he's NEVER having the 2nd one again! I've asked and hisa arm was only a little tender Sat. and no other really dicernable reactions. He has been resting a little more the last couple days though.
Me--arm tender 2 days. Felt very draggy for 3 and Wed-Th. eyes are red, itchy, watering like a leaky faucet and nose is stuffy and runny. Not sick just not good. It'd be easier to deal with him if I felt better. You have tro be sharp to attempt to stay ahead of what he comes up with.
divvi, I've had my arm feel like it was going to fall off, more than once.
This time, the vaccine was reeeeeally cold, and the shot stung. The nurse told me to massage the arm (she did that a bit right after the shot) and I did that periodically on the drive home. No problems at all, not even particularly tender the next day. Keep that tip in mind for next year.
Thanks !all better now, DH back to hooligan self, which i love even his shananigens today.:) he found the bowl of halloween candy...going to be a super 'high' sugar day::)) divvi
divvi, with WebTV, does your husband ever see on the screen what you type? My husband ignores the screen when I am on the computer. I don't think he could understand what he read if he did read what I type! <grin>
I guess I was lucky with my flu shot this year! I had it Tuesday, and it didn't hurt when he gave it, and my arm isn't sore. My husband doesn't get flu shots (he thinks). He refuses to have one. When we go to his doctor, and the doctor draws the blood (for the Lipitor/kidneys), the doctor has his nurse give my husband the flu shot then. I don't know what shot my husband thinks the doctor gave him! <grin>
DH lays on the couch most of the time and its opposite the TV screen. he has to get really close to try to read the TV screen so its not an issue with my typing away. like you i dont know how much he would absorb anyway even if he did read it. i am usually on while hes having breafast or nappy...:)divvi
