Sunday September 21, 2008 is World Alzheimer's Day. The hope is to raise global awareness of the Alzheimer's epidemic and get us all to take action against it. Perhaps there is something each of us can do. To help raise awareness I got my local newspaper to do a story on Alzheimer's in general and make people aware of the importance of the 21st. All donations up to $250,000 will be matched. You can check the web site at (info@alz.org). Lets make some noise!!!
Besides my radio broadcasts and our documentary, a reporter from the Palm Beach Post is interested in interviewing me. If just a fraction of those who read my website, contacted their local newspaper to do a story on AD, just think how much that would go towards raising awareness.
I have had a terrible time with Tony's newspaper stories. I have put up the links, and within days, they don't work anymore. He sent me hard copies, but I don't have a scanner hooked up. I have searched and searched on the Orlando Sentinel website, and the stories don't come up. They are excellent stories. I've put it on my list to call the reporter who did the stories and see if he can get the links activated.
I will definitely post mine when they are available. The documentary is ongoing, so that will take a long time.
A sure way to raise awareness...... en masse? Have someone like Spielberg make a movie about it. Seems to be an effective way to get people talking......and thinking. Thenneck
My DH was just diagnosed with AD on July 2nd this year. He is moving into the moderate stages. I've never done this before but feel like I need to do something to help. I just signed up to walk in the Pacific NW Memory walk on Sunday in Seattle. Is it ok to post the URL here if people want to donate?
Good evening all...... Is there an article already written or one I can use for our local newspaper?------Sorry that I'm confused about this......Would love to get the word out locally.....
Basically, what it amounts to is if you have a particular message, you call the newspaper, ask to talk to the reporter who covers human interest stories or health stories, and you state your case - and become a pest until someone wants to cover your story.
Tony and Trish focus on raising awareness about EOAD, that AD is not just an elderly disease.
Marsh is a retired primary care physican, and he now gives speeches to doctor's groups about recognizing AD and the burdensome effect it has on caregivers. Marsh, if you're reading this, correct me if I'm wrong about your message.
Ruth works tirelessly to bring Project Lifesaver(see side topic on left side of home page of www.thealzheimerspouse.com) to every county in New York.
My focus is on how Alzheimer's Disease affects marriages.
