Hello, everyone. My name is David and I live in Vallejo, CA. My wife, Rebecca, was diagnosed in about 2017. I think she had been suffering for several years prior to diagnosis. One day she turned to me and said, "Something's wrong. I need to see a doctor." Frankly, getting the diagnosis was the best thing that could have happened. I was so frustrated with her disorganization, lack of responsiveness and being lost. She has been in a care home for the last two plus years, and I visit 5-7 days a week, just to check in but often to feed her lunch. The single biggest resource has been the Alzheimer's Association. Their groups and resources have helped us navigate this horror. Both Rebecca and I started in groups for caregivers and clients. Eventually, Rebecca became too seriously impaired to continue her group, so my participation also ended.
Seven of us formed our own group and meet every other week. Three of the seven have seen their spouses die. The group's focus is not so much on Alzheimer's but what do we want the rest of our lives to be. Whether or not our spouses have passed away, we're all dealing with the loss of a life's partner. I would appreciate any feedback that might be forthcoming. My Email is davcur@aol.com.
