JOAN’S BLOG – MONDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2007- Coping by Sharing our Emotions Most of the people who are writing are emotionally situated where we have all been and still are. They are confused about the diagnosis and what it means to have Alzheimer’s; distraught over where to turn for help; angry about what the disease is doing to their loved one and their marriage; shocked at the indifference of their adult children; lonely from the loss of companionship of their life partner; and deeply depressed. Although I try to offer resources, ideas, and suggestions as to how to deal with our problems, often there is no solution except support from those who understand. That is what this website is all about. There are issues that are similar to all caregivers, but as we have found out from my writings and your message board posts, our spousal issues ARE unique, and only we understand them. With that in mind, I invite all new and current readers to gain strength from our shared experiences. By reading the feelings I express in my Blogs, and those of everyone on the Message Boards, you will feel a bit of Besides being able to freely express ideas and feelings here that no one anywhere else could possibly comprehend, we have some very knowledgeable readers, who are always sharing useful medical and financial information. We are all looking for ways of coping with the destructive effects of this disease – we must not forget that sharing our emotions is one way of lifting the depression.
