JOAN’S WEEKEND BLOG – MARCH 1-2, 2008 – BEING GRATEFUL Considering the emotionally draining week I have had, you must wonder how I could write a Blog on being grateful, but my afternoon lunch with my “support groupie girls” went a long way to calming me down and showing me “the bigger picture.” Although I have lost so much, I look around at others and realize I have to appreciate and hold onto what I still have. My husband knows who I am ; remembers he loves me, and tells me so all of the time. He forgets a name here and there, but he knows who all of his friends are; he is able to handle his own personal care; he is able to help around the house by making the salad and folding the clothes. He does all of the grocery shopping for me. We are still able to go out socially – enjoy a movie; a dinner; the company of friends. Neither of us knows how long this will last or what we will lose next, so we need to enjoy and cherish every moment we have together. As you can imagine, I am completely exhausted from this week’s emotional torture, and plan to do NOTHING this weekend, except my radio segment. Please tune into my LIVE radio interview on the Jacqueline Marcell show, “Coping with Caregiving” by clicking this link: http://www.wsradio.com/internet-talk-radio.cfm/shows/Coping-with-Caregiving/news/view.html tonight, March 1, 2008 at 6:13 PM ET. I wish everyone a pleasant and peaceful weekend. Feedback to joan@thealzheimerspouse.com |
