JOAN’S WEEKEND BLOG – AUGUST 1-2, 2009 – YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION When Dr. Cahill and I cooked up this Care Giving book idea on her radio show, I was excited about it, but as the stories are coming in, I am thrilled. Those of you who have sent in stories for the book need to know what an inspiration your stories are to me, and will be to others, when the book comes out. Those of you who have not sent in stories, because you think you do not have anything interesting to say, let me assure you – you do. Everyone does. I ask everyone to think about what our story submitters have done – they have looked deep into their lives, examined who and what they were before care giving, and have given careful thought to how those experiences influenced how they have coped with caring for a loving spouse. The stories made me cry, made me laugh, made me celebrate how brave and wise all caregivers are, even when they are in the throes of the worst self doubt. Whether you have submitted a story or not, all of your stories on the message board and e-mails inspire me to learn more, do better, look more positively at what I have, rather than what I have lost, and continue to spread awareness of Alzheimer spousal care giving issues. I urge everyone to write your story and submit it via e-mail by September 1, 2009. Remember, 20 will be chosen. Give it a try. You may be surprised at what you learn about yourself once you start writing, and what you can teach others from your experiences. Stay tuned for updates on my wild August ride. Sid and I will be in RI next week. When we return, we have two weeks to clean out the garage, sell or chuck what we haven’t used in 3 years, pack, set up the new house, and move(Scroll down for July 20/21 blog). This should be interesting. I wish everyone a quiet and peaceful weekend. Feedback to joan@thealzheimerspouse.com ©Copyright 2009 Joan Gershman
