JOAN’S WEEKEND BLOG – OCTOBER 3-4, 2009 - CALLING ALL SPOUSAL CAREGIVERS – IT’S CRUISING TIME!

We have talked about it; some of us are going; now is the time to make plans to come cruising with us on a Caregiver Cruise. I don’t know about you, but I am tired of doing everything myself, feeling lonely, unappreciated, and sad about the whole miserable care giving journey. I am ready to have a few days to myself to be waited on and pampered. How about you?

I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible at the “Meet and Greet” session on the first or second day.  We’ll kick off our shoes, put up our feet, drink some wine, and get to know each other in person. There are also plans for us to be seated together for dinner, and I will be doing one workshop. If you saw it the last time, you are excused from it. Oh, it’s not mandatory, so you don’t have to come if you don’t want to anyway.

We will be leaving from Miami on February 15, 2010, and stopping at Key West and Grand Cayman. We return to Miami on February 20, 2010. Click the “Cruise” section on the left side of this website, and click “printable flyer”. On the bottom right, click the video that explains what a Caregiver Cruise is all about.  Call Patrick at 919-402-8900 for more information.

This is our chance to get some respite for ourselves. Find capable hands in which to leave your spouse, and come with us for shows, gambling, swimming, touring, and just plain resting. Whoops. How could I forget to mention the food?  It will surround you everywhere 24 hours a day. I just joined Weight Watchers in a last ditch attempt to lose weight and get healthier before I embark on this cruise.

The Caregiver Cruise is NOT just for spousal caregivers, nor is it just for dementia caregivers. It is for ALL caregivers, so if you know of a caregiver in need of respite, pass the word around about www.caregivercruises.com .

I have had a rough couple of days with my own Alzheimer husband, and am feeling quite angry, sad, and in desperate need of a break from self absorbing, irrational, two-year old behavior. Thinking about the cruise puts a little smile on my face. Thinking about meeting many of you puts an even bigger smile on my face.
