JOAN’S WEEKEND BLOG – JUNE 21/22, 2008 – THE COMFORT ZONE

I would like to take this weekend to thank every one of you for fulfilling my dream, and making this website the Comfort Zone for spouses that I envisioned it to be when I started it.

Although always thought provoking, respectful, dignified, and supportive, your posts this week have echoed the theme of understanding – that this is a place where spouses can feel free to express their “unique” feelings, fears, emotional pain, issues of intimacy, guilt, and dreams for the future, that no one but another spouse could possibly comprehend.

Because I felt such hurt, anger, grief, shock, and GUILT, about my thoughts and emotions, and no where to turn with them, I started this website.  In my Welcome Blog, I said – "This is YOUR place…….fill up the message boards…….talk to each other…..let’s gather strength from one another." You have done that and more, beyond any expectations I could have imagined.

We spouses need each other, because although others try to be supportive, no one else understands how overwhelming the pain and grief is when Alzheimer’s Disease slashes through the strong emotional bond that has existed for decades between husband and wife.

So this weekend, I am thanking you for making this website the Comfort Zone that I imagined it could be.

For those of you who have not done so, please take some time to click on the "Previous Blog" section on the left of the home page of this website and read some of the Blogs that discuss what has been so prevalent on the Message Boards this week - mourning, loss of emotional bond, loneliness, sadness, stress, to name but a few.
