JOAN’S WEEKEND BLOG – JANUARY  8/9, 2010 – A CAREGIVER VACATION

I am tired. My shoulders hurt (see blogs below), and I need a rest. A friend will be living in my Villa, so he can be close to my father at the ALF, and available for any emergency; my message board monitor is on the job; and I am taking a vacation. I mentioned a few months ago that friends from up North were coming down here to warm up for a week, and they invited us to join them in Orlando. The advantages are numerous:

• I don’t have to fly – Orlando is an easy 2 hour drive from here. 

• Sid will be occupied with my friend’s husband, while she and I relax at the pool, read, or sleep.

• If Sid and my friend’s husband decide to go somewhere without us wives, or just lie around the pool all day, I won’t have to worry about him. 

• I can rest my shoulder, as my friend’s husband will help me with the wheelchair and walker lifting.

Yes, I will be taking the laptop for e-mail and check-ins on the website. There will still be blogs – guest blogs and “best of blog” series. And of course, the message boards are never closed.

As is usual for the new year, I have much planned for the website, but it is going to wait until I return. I will be sure to fill you in on the details after I have had my rest.
