JOAN’S BLOG – WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31, 2010 – A SPOUSAL CAREGIVER TAKES A DAY OFF Last night, I had family company for dinner. My cousin asked me if I have been going to the gym; if I have been taking walks outside; if I have been going across the street to the pool – if I have been doing anything besides working on my website, arranging diabetes monitoring, physical therapy appointments, doctor appointments, and transportation to one activity or another for Sid. And handling long distance care management for my father. My answer to everything was – “NO. I don’t have time to go to the gym or anything else.” That is when I realized I had better start following my own advice and MAKE time for activities for me. I decided to leave you in the capable hands of my message board monitor today, and take off for a day with my friend, Teena Cahill. She is down here in Florida for a few weeks, so we are arranging for our husbands to be taken to a spring training baseball game , and we are on our own. One never knows what kind of fun and trouble we will get ourselves into when we get together, but whatever it is, I’m up for it. Yay for me! Caregiver day off! I will check in on everyone later this evening. Feedback to joan@thealzheimerspouse.com
