JOAN’S BLOG – MONDAY, AUGUST 17, 2009 –BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE ALZHEIMER SPOUSE

Every few months, particularly when there is a lot going on here, I like to give you an update of what is happening behind the scenes. Things are hopping at The Alzheimer Spouse. Below is a list of current and future projects:

New Features: I have just added a wonderful new resource on the left side – A Guide to Early Onset Dementia- I urge you to check it out, as it is one of the most comprehensive, informative guides to EOAD that I have seen. It also has information on other types of dementia, including Lewy Bodies and Vascular Dementia. I also added “Traveling with an AD Spouse” as another resource. More new features are planned, including sections written by experts on Medicaid, geriatrics, and financing Alzheimer’s disease.  All of you will benefit from my “moving experience”, as “Moving with an AD Spouse” will be up as another new resource, once I finish my own move to the Independent Living Villa.

The Book Project: I am writing a book, and you can be part of it. Click here to read about how you can submit a story for Stories Behind the Faces of Caregiving. Deadline for submission is September 1, 2009

Caregiver Cruises: Once again, I will be sailing to the Caribbean with Patrick Toal of www.caregivercruises.com in February 2010. It was a privilege to meet those of you who cruised with us last year, and I look forward to meeting those who are able to join us in 2010.

Products to Make Life with Alzheimer’s Disease Easier: Advertisers contact me all of the time, asking me to feature their products. I am very particular about those I choose to feature, as I want to make sure it is a reliable product and company. Currently, I have a link to the Alzheimer Store on the right side of the website, which offers a wide variety of helpful products, and is run by Ellen and Mark Warner of the Alzheimer’s Daily News. I was very impressed with the Wellness Wizard, and have spoken many times by phone with the owner of the company. Recently, I had some problems with the link, and had to take it down, but I hope to have it up again soon. Amazon is a very reliable company, and I try to put up links to books and products that will be interesting, informative, and helpful for you.

Website Redesign: In an effort to keep this website as user friendly as possible, there are many people working on a new, more improved design for the home page of the website. You will notice changes taking place a few at a time, and they may change often until we choose the final design. Please bear with us.

Text Only Blogs: For those of you who have difficulty reading my blogs with the pictures, my son sent me directions on how to offer a “text only” version. Unfortunately, I was unable to follow his directions. After I move and get settled, I will have him talk me through it on the phone.

My Move:  Most of you are aware that I am in the process of moving. In two weeks, to be exact. As you can imagine, things are a bit topsy turvy  in my house. Thank goodness Sid is being calm and cooperative. I think it is because he is looking forward to the move, where he knows there will be plenty of activities for him. Not to mention, a pool and clubhouse about 20 steps from our front door. I will be keeping up with the blogs and daily news features during this move, so be sure to tune in every day.
